Gaetz Pulls Out

Having viewed at least some portion of the iceberg of dirt set to crash his Titanic nomination for AG, Matt Gaetz has graciously stepped aside for someone else who might slip past senatorial review.

I'm kind of joking. When I say "graciously stepped aside", I guess I'm still wondering at the hubris that let Matt Gaetz keep his name in knowing of his ethics investigation and probably being well aware of whether he paid for sex with a minor once or a few times or whatever--or whether he was always ass deep in hookers and blow.

Before we get on to the quandary of Pam Bondi, the recipient of Trump money to forget about any prosecution against Trump University, which defrauded down on their luck folks of all sorts who thought lessons from real estate stable genius Trump would change their fortunes, not leave them even more immersed in debt, as the new Gaetz--let's think about the old one:

Nancy Mace and Her Personal Space

Nancy Mace would like to not share a bathroom with Sarah McBride, who is the first transgender member of Congress. I truly don't know how much time pick-me pygmy Mace spends in the bathroom at work, but because there are stalls in public bathrooms, McBride would never see Mace's ladybusiness in a shared bathroom and Mace would never satisfy her probable curiosity about trans bodies.

I would prefer not to share public bathrooms with those weird people who, in a bathroom with several empty stalls, have to sit in the stall RIGHT NEXT to mine. I don't want to share a bathroom with those bitches who can't sit their ass down and pee on the seat. I hate those heifers who assume automatic flush is going to zhush all their mess away--and it does not when you are that messy! Hit the button, nasty!

Rest in Power, Sheila Jackson Lee

What an admirable career of fighting for others! In that spirit, let's get right, unite, and fight.

TWGB: Milwaukee and the MAGAts

Poor little Trump. He has to be saved, you know. Mike Johnson is expected (by Trump, even if it isn't technically his job) to save Trump from the consequences of his Manhattan trial. He also wants to save Trump from his own motormouth

But why?  Of course, Trump is trashing the host of this year's Republican National Convention--he trashed the host of 2020's RNC as well.
He's not a big fan of Philadelphia--"bad things happen there!" He doesn't like Detroit. Actually, he hates whole swathes of the US--mostly the big cities. And blue states in general. Not a big fan of Puerto Rico, either.

Your Moment of Law 'n' Order

The MAGA folks are very in favor of law and order (uniforms, hassling the riff raff) except when it applies to them.

Here in Pennsylvania, we actually had Republican state congressional members get real BIG MAD at the state house when confronted with the actual heroes of 1/6-Republican members get real BIG MAD at the state house when confronted with the actual heroes of 1/6--the police who put their bodies on the line for actual law and order, instead of responding to the whims of a con artist who wanted an insurrection because the Constitutional way of doing things wasn't good enough for him.  (The man who lied about the election he LOST and now wants to pretend the people who pepper sprayed and beat cops with improvised and purposefully brought weapons was political prisoners and heroes."

Which shows how the GOP seems to feel about things. Being hypocrites and all. And this brings me back around to how the GOP still wants to defund the police--because they "feel" they are going after the wrong people.

It seems like Republicans don't want to address the elephant in the room--they want cops to selectively ignore the "right (wing) people" and only pursue the "woke and broke".

When they talk about anything being "free and fair"--I am not sure what they think either "free" or "fair" mean--they have whole other definitions for these things than the dictionary.  But I will assume from their ideas of freedom and fairness regarding their understanding of "equal treatment under the law" that they....

Mean nothing at all.

MTG is Showing her Panties Again

Behold, Marjorie Taylor Greene,
conspiracy theorist, drama queen,
lacking attention and growing bored
decided SHE WOULD NOT BE IGNORED!

So, she decided to pick some bones
(using crap she got from Alex Jones)
with Dr. Fauci--it wasn't pretty.
her duel of wits unarmed, a pity!

She subjects herself to ridicule
with a grasp of facts so miniscule
that in a feckless hunt for witches
she revealed herself the worst of--

people to have ever been in congress!

She made the hearing a total farce
because she had to show her arse,
all to earn her soggy potato chip.

TWGB: The Back-up Singers

Yesterday, when we saw J.D Vance and them come out to the courthouse to defame the judge and his daughter, I wrote a thing and deleted it and don't even recall what I said because I realized in the morning it was incomplete.  Look at these "pick me pygmies". Look on these little men. Look at these ants peeping round the legs of a great colossus who hath bestrided their world.

Look on today's brood of vipers in matching suits looking for all the world like a pack of back-up singers for the main event, Donald Trump. Did they sing "Da woo, doodly do?"

No, they helped Trump violate his gag order and tried to make us feel bad for poor old thin skinned and very chilly Trump, same as Tuberville and Vance and them the day before. Maybe Mr. Trump (not, "former president Trump" because fuck giving honorifics to rapists, racists, and traitors--which is this withered old full diaper of a man) can't violate a gag order himself, but what of his little friends?

He can't tell them to do that, and maybe he did:

Trump is not supposed to be violating the gag order by proxy. I don't think the court is supposed to be stupid about this--do you? And I don't think harassing the Judge's family members is in regular order--it's just bullying--obstruction of justice. See, I do say Tuberville isn't very smart, but maybe is dumb, but he isn't just as dumb as you might imagine but is very possibly dumber. He was on Trump's fat-finger speed-dial on 1/6 after all.

Maybe they don't know Micael Cohen used to be this man's back-up singer. Maybe they don't understand where this road leads.

Maybe they think they can loan their souls to Trump and haven't sold them. Maybe they think they can get their dignity back after whatever this is.

Trump doesn't pay back loans. He inflates his value of course and then?  Hopes banks are willing to negotiate for pennies on the dollar. This is what Michael Cohen was talking about--negotiating invoices of all kinds. These political wannabees are auditioning to play Celebrity Political Apprentice, but don't realize what portion of their credibility as a political figure or just a human being they are ceding to a racist, rapist, fraudulent, highly suspect and damaged fuck of a human.

Michael Johnson played this game, and I sort of wish MTG would put another MTV up for debate just for the real fuckery of it, so Dems can agree that this man is utter trash serving no one but himself.

Army of God and the Texas Tangle

Rubber Duck, hold on to your shorts, because it looks like we might have us a convoy again.

What? Well, Gov. Abbott of Texas can't defend the border against (reads notes) US Border patrol and continue to hold up supply lines without the help of Trump's little Christian soldiers. I mean, can he? So of course he will need weirdo civilians showing up in job lots to just confuse the fuck out of everything, because that's completely effective border security. He will want a kind of posse, made up of the sternly written opinions of red state governors and maybe they send their National Guards to do nothing but stand about at the border. Bored and listless. Away from home.

This is the Republican approach to a serious issue--stunt-queening. The legislature could just vote on fully funding agencies involved with border security to do a really great job, but instead we get this shit. They want to impeach DHS Mayorkas because he can't do his job because they didn't give him the funds--even if he's still doing as much of his job as he can--within constitutional limits. I'm the kind of nut who thinks people get impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, not for trying to obey the law.

It's just as fucked-up as the GOP Hunter Biden investigation--it rests on the idea that the kayfabe of Breitbart and Gateway Pundit are real shit. It distracts from the GOP inability to do policy or govern ever. Let's interfere with the people trying to do the job, to hold up the job getting done. Let's not do an immigration deal--ever! Then bitch about there never being an immigration deal. Blame Democrats for existing. Blame them harder when they want to make a deal. Because how dare they!

GOP GONE WILD!!!

What in the hell was up today in Congress? First off, it seems like former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy nailed Tim Burchett in the kidneys so hard that Matt Gaetz had to file a report. That's wild. Apparently, McCarthy isn't settling into his post-Speaker life that great. And I do not know what is up between Gaetz and McCarthy but the mutual disrespect is real. Also, McCarthy has been talking shit about his fellow Republicans and this isn't the first time

Sounds very stressful.

Also, in the Senate, Markwayne Mullin thought he'd try to throw down with a Teamster on the floor and it got denied by Senator Bernie Sanders, a damn adult in the room. Mullin later appealed on Twitter like this:

For the benefit of the Comfortably Smugs and probably Catturds of the social mediaverse. Look at those guns and those firearms. At the risk of sounding sexist: this man is benching a lot of male insecurity and supplementing with Daddy issues. Somebody hand him a testosterone wubbie to suck on.

James Comer got DAGGONE DEFENSIVE when Jared "the Smurf" Moskowitz called him out on his own loan to his brother of $200K--exactly like the Crime Family Bidens' Terrible Secret! Why so tense? I wonder?

Shit, why is everybody so tense?  Is it because the Christian Nationalist who was supposed to be hardcore MAGA offered a clean CR and isn't a big fan of a Biden impeachment because there's no "there", there? (MTG has already voiced her threats misgivings.)

What's next? Is this just a case of elephant musth? Or can we expect MTG to kneecap Lauren Boebert like she was Nancy Kerrigan? (She been going around calling her a "whore" which is just hours of family entertainment where I come from.) Should we expect Harriet Hageman to finally lasso and hogtie somebody like I truly think she's been fixing to do?

I don't even want to pretend I know. I only know I want to blame Trump because he made violence feel more like an acceptable thing, but that isn't it exactly, either, is it?

TWGB: TrumpWorld is Definitely Not OK

You know, all I wanted to do last night was post a little bit about Rudy Giuliani fixing to sue President Biden, but I fell asleep at the computer because it got so deep in the weeds, and as of today, there was more to the story:

Look, I think it's great that Rudy Giuliani found lawyers to take this case even though he is being sued by some of his other lawyers for not getting paid and can't seem to keep a Georgia-based counselor to save his behind. He's getting sued by Hunter Biden, of course, and by a former employee alleging sexual assault and harassment which is a case involving details that are profoundly stomach-churning. But these guys believe enough in Rudy Giuliani to pursue a case where his allegations are that Joe Biden's crack about Giuliani being a Russian pawn spreading disinfo cost him his reputation and millions of dollars of business--

In a way actually being a source of Russian disinfo, making wild pronouncements about a stolen election with shoe polish running down his face, putting on a presser at a landscaping service, farting COVID into the face of his stolen election co-counsel, losing his license to practice because of his shoddy ethics and being so frequently intoxicated that it's part of the investigation into the attempt of the Trump Team to steal the 2020 election are not the ACTUAL THINGS that screwed Giuliani's reputation?

Much Ado About the Shutdown

The maneuvering to have or not have the government shutdown was very stupid, which means it will likely happen again. For all the folk relieved that it didn't happen, there will be some very disappointed that there was no great, beautiful chaos. (Trump doesn't understand congressional math or the assignment of political liability now any more than he did when he was in office. Some of his little House minions are very loyal and very confused.) McCarthy himself knew better.

But here is what the foofaraw amounted to: stripping out the aid to Ukraine, which can be obtained through a separate resolution. It strikes an awful chord, though: are we a nation true to our word, that will support our allies and follows though on our promises? Are we as a nation capable of understanding the risks and rewards of our actions? Do we understand why Putin is the villain here, and what does it mean when some of our elected representatives simply--do not?

So what was accomplished besides displaying a soft white underbelly of GOP dysfunction and willingness to answer to the voices of un-American fuck-ups?

Does McCarthy's speakership survive?  Honestly? Who else wants the job?

Also, the GOP narrowly evaded being stuck with the onus of being the stupidest people of the day, because one Democratic Representative tried to use a shortcut from Cannon to where the action is. Yeah, he was definitely not trying to stop the vote, since he...voted? I think he was trying to get to the vote but definitely misread the signs.

That is a problem that is certainly going around.  Anyway, I'm glad I don't have to write about shutdown nonsense, because the idea that these stupid, paycheck and service-denying things happen over political snits is fucking shameful.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is Just Dumb, You Guys

Um, no?

There weren't governments that melted the ice. The ice age and global warming are different things. One was a totally natural event and the other is understood to be "anthropogenic"--we are doing it. The global temperature noticeably jumped after the industrial age. We got the "gift of fire" to survive the ice age, but we turned it into coal-burning and oil-burning engines of CO2 production. The ice age ended on its own in the younger Dryas period. There are competing theories about what stimulated the interglacial period, but we don't have much to go on beyond polar core samples or whatever about stuff that long ago--

But about recent history of climate--we've got tons of data. What do you want--beyond, like, the hockey stick

So, just to cut up dumb Marge for posterity, she believes that GOD sent the rains to Burning Man, but they are also being brainwashed to believe it was global warming. So, God sent a weather portent to teach a lesson, but actually not teach people anything at all, because He should have known about the climate science fuckery ahead of time, bein' God and all.  He could have probably left shit alone in that case. Or maybe did science harder. I dunno. Not my circus and the simians in MTG's brain sure as heck ain't my monkeys. But what she's saying doesn't just make her look dumb, she's implying God is dumb, too.

But what I will note for posterity is: she does not make any sense at all. Maybe, and this isn't the first time I noticed it, she's just dumb as hell. She doesn't know shit and can't be taught. My word. Just uncapable to do congressional stuff at all.

Sam Alito Should Retire.

I have an opinion about this particular justice that is not nice. Samuel Alito's wife leased land to an oil and gas firm while Alito sat in judgment over the EPA. Alito is no stranger to conflicts of interest--it's just that he isn't interested in discussing the conflict part of it. I have once and forever stated that the definition of "conflict of interest" for conservatives was that if one always has decided in one's own interest, there is never a conflict. And I'm not sure that flippant construction doesn't accurately describe the conservative court.

So what is my take on Alito and his beefing on the idea of checks and balances? Because it boils down to whether Alito thinks he has a say over Congress' ability to set tax law without Congress having an ability to determine whether Alito has any ethical standards he ever has to conform to

It would seem to me like Alito does not prefer to have any ethical standards pertaining to him by another authority because he understands his situation wouldn't stand up to scrutiny, and if he doesn't like my opinion on that, he can fucking fight me.

He won't and doesn't need to, because in his world, my opinion is an irrelevancy. (Also, I would cream him on his conflicted ass and the legacy of it point by butchered legal point.)

He needs to retire because he's at this point trolling how much SCOTUS doesn't have to conform to any ethical standards and he wants to pretend Congress has nothing at all to do with the configuration of the court or the ethics they need to adhere to. But the Constitution literally does exactly that.  Congress can determine how many justices, and even if they can be impeached for their skullduggery.

Weird that he missed that. It feels very intentional.

Epps

Ray Epps is suing Fox News for lying about him being a fed who instigated the Capitol riot because that isn't what happened at all, even if some people, even apparently some US congresspeople, seem to think this was definitely a thing.

(Mah gawd Texas--why do you have to do "shitkicker" so hard?)

But he was just a very committed Trump guy who has a family and is a real flesh and blood conservative, who, for whatever reason, Fox News and especially Tucker Carlson, decided to make into a scapegoat. He wasn't any different than any other person doing 1/6 stuff on 1/6, and there Fox News was, pretending he was somehow extra culpable for the melee (when didn't Fox News go really hard to pretend the machines were a problem and spread conspiracy theories about the 2020 election? Basically, being more culpable than anyone but maybe Trump campaign people for what went down, based on utter bullshit? As th Dominion suit shows and the Smartmatic suit also will?)

Fox News and believers in Fox News propaganda like the representative I bothered to name have caused this guy real harm. I don't share his political views, but I don't have to in order to understand that what he has experienced is appalling. He might be culpable for his actions that day--but not responsible for anyone else's.

Trump on the other hand, and his little minions like Rudy Giuliani...they have a lot to answer for. And I hope the discovery in this case sets a lot of people straight about the wrong ideas they have absorbed.

Marge and Russia First

I really don't know why she's this way because I don't think there's much overlap in the Venn diagram of her thinkery and mine, but she seems to have no concept whatsoever of how our historical alliances were formed or why they were and is willing to do something Trump fucked with and Putin would love because she is incapable of appreciating why alliances are good, and fucking with them because of your daddy issues is abhorrent. The entire history of the 20th and early 21st century for her is null set. She supports "AMMMUURRUCA FUUURST" in the sense of assuming the US interests lie in not having alliances, as if we did not have interests, because she's too unaware of what our international priorities might be.

She represents one of the obvious dangers of democracy--she was voted in by people who do not seem to appreciate she has no forebrain. She doesn't have the concept of right and wrong to know that the invader of a sovereign nation (Putin, WRT Ukraine) is in the wrong, and that European nations have noticed that he has in Georgia, in Ukraine, in Belarus, been exceptionally Fucking Around, and people in the countries nearby have become NATO curious in the hopes that Putin would get Finding Out.

We've Found Some Weaponization

I remember when, during the Obama years, there was an IRS scandal that turned out not to be one at all--someone at the agency noticed there was a whole ton of new 501 (c) 3 and 4 orgs cropping up and wondered if they were all legitimate non-profits and not actually political and gave that paperwork more scrutiny. It turned out, they weren't even targeting specifically conservative organizations but certain keywords, that included "occupy" as well. The IRS apologized and settled with the organizations and processed all their applications.

Anyway, conservatives acted like this was the worst, top-down oppression against conservative institutions by the Obama Administration in cahoots with the Deep State that anyone ever saw. It wasn't. But I'm pretty sure the legend remains in the minds of the people who always think the Deep State is in cahoots with Democratic presidential administrations.

Anyway, Trump personally wanted to sic the IRS on people he didn't like. I'm ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN the anti-government weaponization folks in the Freedumb Caucus will get right on that, of course?

Heh. The House weaponization fixation is about using Congressional oversight (and your tax money) to investigate Biden. No amount of money (they seem to believe) should ever investigate the guy who lied about the 2020 election, cause an insurrection attempt, and stole classified documents.  But they will absolutely get on the lil' baggie of blow and Hunter Biden, because absolutely no one in the White House staff, or with the WH press correspondents, or a tourist from anywhere outside of the White House, even has some coke and smile anymore.

I'm just saying sometimes the hypocrisy really hits one in the face. Or it should hit somebody...

TWGB: Trump Has Some Explaining To Do

Now, it might seem like I'm writing a TrumpWorld Grab-Bag because I can't find a hook for the debt ceiling vote that took place, and you'd be exactly right! I hate writing about debt ceiling brinkmanship because it feels a little like "Hey let's pretend we're about to violate the Constitution and shiv the economy to let people know who the real patriots are."

That's insane, right? Like undermining the courts or the DOJ, or defunding law enforcement or pretending our elections are rigged, all without real proof, this is kind of seditious, you know? And it doesn't really surprise me that the same MAGA Freedom Caucus who did wild stuff like support not certifying Biden's win and some of whom even asked for pardons from Trump? Are down with hijacking the cockpit and bringing our economy down, Flight 93 style

They are ideological terrorists. I don't think you could persuade them that fucking up the US economy is wrong because it hurts their constituents and even has ripples in the entire world economy. They have stockpiled guns and freeze-dried beanie-weinies.  They feel good. They are waiting on some kind of political rapture. Maybe that looks like the Second Coming of Trump. I'm not even a good Christian, and that feels all kinds of blasphemous to me.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Has a Future at Fox News (UPDATED)

The Tweet has context added at the bottom, that the bereaved woman that MTG is exploiting lost her sons in 2020, before Joe Biden became president. So obviously, it must have been some other president's policies that were wholly inadequate. This would be obvious to you, discerning Reader of this blog--it isn't necessarily to Marge's target audience.

She even played my favorite game, so often seen on the RNC and GOP official Twitter accounts, of pretending that border patrol encounters with migrants and seizures of smuggled drugs somehow mean that the border is not being protected. How does that even work?

George Santos, Again (UPDATED: And, There's Another?)

Does even a day--a single day--go by without some new story of this guy having ripped someone off or told some ridiculous lie? But the little details like getting charged with theft for floating bad checks to Amish puppy breeders and getting the record expunged because his checkbook was "stolen"? (Santos being a person also charged with stealing the odd checkbook himself, now and then.) He makes career criminals feel like their own lives were just wasted, and if they only had a little more gumption....

He beggars nearly every description you could think of, except for Republican congressman.

UPDATED: The story about background chameleon Anna Paulina Mayerhofer Luna is probably not going to be the same magician's hat with some new and odd thing being drawn out of it every day, but there is a certain type of person we are looking at here: shameless, malleable, concerned with being liked and not especially interested in authenticity, basically--famewhores.

I noted somewhere on Twitter that I'm interested in George Santos--who spent about nine months in Orlanda, and the weird Florida miasma of dirty money and rampant corruption. Both Santos and Luna, for example, are "skeptical" (hostile) about aid to Ukraine. They are young are definitely working an identity politics angle. (The GOP covets a younger, more diverse face--to make a recruitment brochure photo spread like a good university might have.) They've both promoted the "rigged elections" line. (But that might just be something the kids have to do to get by in the GOP these days.)

A dive into her campaign financials might be interesting.

The Oversight Committee's Essential Business--Hunter Biden's Cock.

The job of the Oversight Committee is, per their web page:

Our mission statement is to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and all its agencies. We provide a check and balance on the role and power of Washington - and a voice to the people it serves.

Genuinely good government requires a commitment to expose waste, fraud, and abuse. We ultimately report to hard working taxpayers to ensure their investment in government is spent effectively, efficiently, and transparently.

We identify problems, shine light on the situation, and propose reforms to prevent abuses from being repeated.

And this is somehow why this body grilled former Twitter employees about why there was a 24-hour suppression of a story that people could still see outside of Twitter, and also why pictures of naked Hunter Biden were taken down at the request of the Biden campaign. Look back up at that mission statement. They are supposed to be looking at waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. And they are instead looking into how a corporation might have blocked a story favorable to Trump's political campaign? How does that protect the American taxpayer from government abuse?

Ha! It doesn't! This hearing was actually about using the House process (funded by taxpayer dollars) to further Republican conspiracy theories--an actual example of waste, fraud and abuse. Literally doing the thing the committee is supposed to expose. And yet, ironically, it was exposed! Or to quote Rep. Gery Connolly: “My, my, my. What happens when you hold a hearing, and you can’t prove your point?”

TWGB: It's Raining Shoes!

It certainly has been a minute, hasn't it? So, what brings me out of self-imposed blogging exile, if not something very relevant to my...
