Having viewed at least some portion of the iceberg of dirt set to crash his Titanic nomination for AG, Matt Gaetz has graciously stepped aside for someone else who might slip past senatorial review.
I'm kind of joking. When I say "graciously stepped aside", I guess I'm still wondering at the hubris that let Matt Gaetz keep his name in knowing of his ethics investigation and probably being well aware of whether he paid for sex with a minor once or a few times or whatever--or whether he was always ass deep in hookers and blow.
Before we get on to the quandary of Pam Bondi, the recipient of Trump money to forget about any prosecution against Trump University, which defrauded down on their luck folks of all sorts who thought lessons from real estate stable genius Trump would change their fortunes, not leave them even more immersed in debt, as the new Gaetz--let's think about the old one:
Was the allure of Trump supposed to overcome the hookers and blow story and make everyone not give a shit whether one of the paid and laid was a minor? Did Gaetz overestimate his favorability with the GOP in general and his fellows in Congress in particular? Did the simple effect of being ass-deep in hookers and blow make him forget regular degular folks generally disapprove of that sort of thing?
I'm fucked if I even know. It feels to me like Gaetz, on time to every other party under the sun, was late to the party that maybe the ethics investigation info dropping would render him unemployable by any measure under the sun for anything--like he was just so silverspooned that the idea of consequences for his life never even occurred to him. Just like the ethics investigation existing never occurred to Trump as being something anyone would dare to hold against Gaetz if Trump himself picked him.
Does this mean some community standards are still alive and kicking?
Again--fucked if I know--I think Gaetz flashed on his dissolute life and saw something there he hoped no one else would see, regardless of whether his party might pardon him for it. They might, but he realized NOT EVERYONE was as permissive as the party faithful have become.
There's a lesson in there and I would like people who need to learn from it go on and study the heck out of it.
