Remarkable! Or, The Perpetual Trump Gluteal Osculation Machine

Sean Duffy, a reality TV star, Fox News guy, former US Congressman, now Department of Transportation guy, said Trump's leadership has been "remarkable".  Being on "Road Rules" qualifies you for DOT because "roads". It is known. And "remarkable" certainly is a word.

It doesn't have to mean "remarkably good"--and it doesn't. Maybe he meant it that way.

But it was "remarkable" in the sense of being appallingly racist, sexist, stupid and self-inflating. A projection of blame onto other people as both a deflection and a cover-up for suborned insecurity. Duffy has his ass to kiss, and he did fine.

And I don't care, because what followed was astonishingly typical and horrific. Trump blamed DEI (which seems to mean "people of color" in Trump's mind) and Biden for what happened, because he wants to speculate about who to blame and is uniquely incapable of either knowing his role or shutting his hole.

On behalf of Generation X, I apologize for Sean Duffy. Being a sell-out Boomer ass-kisser was certainly a choice, and one he didn't have to make. I guess that's just the way the Reality Bites. Some of us still keep it real, though--and here's my opinion on Trump.

Shit--Here's a Good TrumpWorld Final Pitch:

But I'm pretty sure Trump is actually headed for Venezuela because he keeps saying so. Also being back in Russia has done wonders for Butina's health you can tell. She's looking greeeaaaaaatt.

Look, I could point to all the misogyny Trump dumped out just today, suggesting he might like to hit Michelle Obama, imagining Kamala Harris in a ring with Mike Tyson, his running mate calling Harris "trash", or his racism and the racism of his campaign, such that the campaign only just last week--the final week of the campaign, they fired a white supremacist and that the bizarrely hateful MSG rally still reverberates.

But I'm going to point to the fact that there is something wrong with thinking after the investigation into the 2016 election, after the first impeachment, after 1/6, some people don't recognize what hundreds of national security professionals have:

TWGB: The Bedminster Bore

Not that long ago, I watched some right-wing commentator on Bill Maher's show try to say that Trump was NOT a "country club Republican", and for some reason, no one told her that Trump owns the fucking country clubs. (Was it Batya Ungar-Sargon? I can't find the clip but it's hardly worth my time to keep looking for it.) He owns the country clubs. He is not a working-class hero. He stiffs working people whenever he can.

He just sat down with fellow billionaire Elon Musk and talked about how unions were bad because working people would be paid more if they were unionized. And today, he stood in front of his country club in New Jersey with some prop groceries and...um...talked about Hillary Clinton's emails and calling Kamala Harris a communist. Because how long can someone talk about the economy when he's only talking about it to get elected?  He lied, as per usual, because it's what he does.

It was a dumb snooze version of his stump speech that he fooled certain chosen journalists into turning up for. Low energy. Lower-case "t" Trump.

Does the GOP Know What a Woman Is?

As of Saturday, JD Vance and Donald Trump were both still misgendering Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer who was born female and was raised female. There is no good reason to believe that she either does have elevated testosterone or is chromosomally XY. She seems to just be a hard-working girl with a heck of a punch who is living her dream and representing her country in a sport she loves.

This is why I insist transphobia is in part, misogyny. And delusional. Imagine the contortions your mind must go through to suspect the "woke" government of Algeria sending a trans boxer to the Olympics. Imagine being so careless about facts that you would say this not caring what kind of blowback falls on that young lady, who is just trying to do her best?

She is tough, strong, muscular. Calling her "male" is saying women cannot be these things. Suddenly, people who insist on anatomy being destiny started to ask whether, like Caster Semaya, this woman might be intersex. Transphobes understand gender exists on a spectrum after all, when it suits them, but only when it comes to trying to exclude someone. They seized on this woman for no good reason other than they needed someone to "other" at the moment.

On the Couch with Jesse Watters

Look, I think it's great that Fox News wants to address this throbbingly important issue of the day, and who better than Watters to do it, but let's not get it twisted. Politics isn't beanbag, and Democrats are not like Republicans. See, Republicans have little "jokes" they want to make about Kamala Harris like she "slept her way to the top" (sexist) or that she's a "DEI hire" (sexist and racist) or that because her parents were both born elsewhere, she isn't really, really a US citizen (Birtherism 2).  Do they believe those things? Maybe, maybe not, but they are mean and dumb and they find it funny to repeat those things in all seriousness even if it's bullshit.

As for Vance and the couch thing, sure, it's bullshit and there are far more substantive things to criticize about him, like being the ideas guy for a future dystopia. But it's also fun to point out that he seems like the kind of funky little creep who waits until someone gets off the couch to go to the bathroom, has his way with the warm spot, and then lets them sit back down and wonder why the spot is still warm.

Do I really, really believe he's that kind of guy? I dunno. I do think he backs Project 2025 and isn't lying when he says he would do for Trump what Pence wouldn't.  So, let's put it this way--we aren't sharing the sofa.  He can have the fringe.

Harris Fired Up Milwaukee

In the first 24 hours after President Biden dropped after the race, the campaign for Vice-President Harris broke a fundraising record. It feels like enthusiasm is BACK in this race.

I can't help but notice that her GOP detractors have some criticisms, which are, as far as I can tell:

1) She was a popular and attractive single career woman with an active social life before marriage,

2) She laughs (I think they are jealous because she gets the jokes and does not need them explained?),

3) She was either a total "cop" or just let everyone go, I do not know what story they want and neither do they,

and--

4) Something about being a "DEI hire" which of course, stands for "Doing Everything Impressively" (touches earpiece) wait a minute, they mean something else....and had to be told to tone that racist shit down.

Also, being desperate scared freaks, Articles of Impeachment have already been announced because...yeah. Exactly.  It's always clown time in this circus.

Is this hope I'm feeling?

This Was "America's Mayor", Once

He's not half racist and misogynistic, is he? It reminds me that he went out of his way to defame, and continued to defame, two Black, female election workers, also in Georgia.  But because my government name ends in the same vowel as his, let me help him with the pronunciation of Ms. Willis' name:

And she isn't a "ho"--but an adult female who can socialize with another adult person. Are we going to sit here in 2024 and pretend a professional adult woman is not allowed to have adult relationships? That "dating" is some form of harlotry?

Is this the Middle Ages?  I do not want to hear sexual slurs about anyone under the sun from this sleazeball

Abortion is Medical Care not a Fucking Spa Vacation

He's being disingenuous about how easy it is to just go ahead and get leave depending upon what your unit is up to, and seems to be oblivious to how time-sensitive the mission to get a pregnancy resolved truly is, but I guess what this dead-eyed putz is implying that really set me off is the idea that taking leave and making a trip to where safe, legal reproductive care can be obtained is a FUCKING VACATION! A FUCKING TOUR OF THE WONDERFUL AND LUXURIOUS WORLD OF NOT CARRYING A FETUS. A GODDAMN SIGHTSEEING EXTRAVAGANZA OF YOUR KNEES UP AND WHATNOT IF SURGICAL AND A PHARMACY IF MEDICAL! AND MAYBE YOU WILL WITNESS THE LOCAL ANTI-ABORTION TRIBES PERFORMING THEIR SLUT-SHAMING RITUALS! AND EVEN INVOLVE YOU IN THEM!

I don't know how Tom Cotton was raised, but I guess if it was in Arkansas, land of the Duggars, maybe his early rearing really was as backwards regarding sex ed as a very backwards thing can be. The thing where women who are raped are seen as having been traps for their rapists. The thing where having had sex taints and uses a woman up--makes her less worthy. (Describing the sexual female as "used gum" in Christian abstinence education haunts me. Vaginas, are elastic like gum and self-cleaning like ovens. What the whole fuck?) The thing where her life is nothing compared not only to a viable fetus, but even to a nonviable one. As if she was obliged to go down with the ship because someone else desperately believed in miracles.

Trump, CNN and the Power of Sufficient Cable

The CNN town hall featuring former president Donald Trump and former Daily Caller employee Kaitlan Collins was a shitshow as expected. The network stocked the audience with Trumpists because that's obviously fucking normal. And then he got to saw away at his special hobby horses, which was just fun to watch with little to no pushback when you pause to consider this is a twice-impeached racist sex pest who absolutely fumbled COVID-19 and the economy in his last year in office.

This bitter, lying, indicted, tarnished, twice-impeached, treasonous, shambling reprobate should in no way be considered a viable candidate for office and should, in fact, be made a figure of mockery everywhere his grotesque bulk lurches, and yet, he is also the best shot the GOP has for 2024, so the cable news dickheads are going to try and make him...credible?

So, what we were treated to, one day after a jury unanimously after but three hours of deliberations awarded E. Jean Carroll damages for his sexual battery and defamation of her (and not rape, because it was uncertain whether she noticed his thimble dick actually penetrating her nor ejaculating, leading us to wonder if his small fingers actually brag on him, not the opposite--which is not intended to be defamatory because I am of a scientific aspect and am merely asking questions of a delicate anatomical nature) was more defamation, and rather gross as well.  And the Trump-friendly studio audience loved it.

I don't know how that resonated with you, Gentle Reader, but it makes me bloody-minded, and I mean more so than usual. It's one thing to despise Trump heart and soul. It's another to take in the values of his fanclub in full and realize they are complete gutter-dwellers with little to redeem them. Deplorables, by choice.

But maybe a silver lining exists in the sound bites created by the fact of Trump being given adequate cable (which, like saying "hoist on his own petard" suggests the concept of "enough rope"--which is what I think he definitely wished on 1/6 for his running mate, Mike Pence, not that that gormless SOB appreciates it).  He did admit Mike Pence did something wrong in his mind in this little chat. He said he believed that the Georgia SOS owed him votes. He reiterated that he did take documents to Mar-A-Lago, it was great of him to do that, and definitely had the right to declassify them--although whether he did and how and what he took and why he's so pleased with himself stays a mystery.

We can wonder whether the fluke of this gasbag becoming president was the fault of outlets like CNN giving him "sufficient cable"--platforming him and taking him "seriously, not literally." The image of CNN cameras focusing on an empty podium where the celebrity candidate had grabbed their attention by its figurative lowest chakra remains a sticking point with me regarding their failure to be serious journalists because they wanted his ratings power.

But in the course of this shitshow, he delivered several soundbites that would certainly be of interest in at least three of his ongoing criminal investigations and at least one civil complaint.

Maybe it's possible that this creature could be both raised up and brought low by the quality of sufficient cable.

The Fundamentals of My Feminism

An artist depicted a Great Wall of Vaginas (Vulvas, actually) and because I'm me, I thought about the amazing plaster caster Cynthia Albritton of recent blessed memory, who got depictions of the units of so many male artists including Jimi Hendrix. The monuments to assorted gifted phalli aren't necessarily controversial--but someone has decided to be the decider of correct and appropriate vulvularity.

We did not need that. Purity culture is already doing a wonderful job of telling female-bodied people we are having bad vulvas. They are telling young girls they are used up by just using tampons for their menses.

We are told we are worth less because of our "body count" and that multiple penises and births are making our one interesting feature (our vag) less useful. Sloppy, slippery, loose, etc.

They do not seem to know we have muscles on our pelvic floor that can push out whole human life many times over. We are not spent because of little penetrations (tampons, penises) when we are made to birth big-headed babies. Vulvas are elastic and fantastic.

But anatomy is not destiny. Having a vulva or a uterus does not mean you identify as female, and I support referring to people who birth, menstruate, or have uteruses or vulvas, as being referred to in that way as appropriate. I am not being referred to when someone is talking about a "birthing person" and I don't feel excluded by that. I technically might be able to--but I know despite being female, that isn't me. It's a term of fact, not a judgment.

The GOP Are Who We Think They Are

So, when news broke that Herschel Walker was accused of having paid for an abortion and there were receipts, I knew instantly: that wouldn't move the needle. After all, Walker has been rambling in public with sentence fragments that make no sense at all, has claimed multiple personality syndrome, has admitted to holding a gun on his ex and even playing Russian roulette, and has make various statement about his college career, sports, his charity, and what he even does for a living, that are frankly, just not true.

And the polls vs. current GA. Sen. Raphael Warnock are still awfully close. Republicans have a very high tolerance for fuckery when it comes to people with an "R" after their name.

I mean, you could look at Roy Moore as an example, or Trump after the TMZ video and multiple allegations of sexual harassment or assault. But it isn't just about sexual allegations. I mean, Steve Bannon conned anti-immigration conservatives out of their money over "Build the Wall" and he still has support. Alex Jones is lying grifter, and he has support. The GOP still has a big tent, it's just really looking a lot like a sideshow.

So, the image about is from a prayer held over Herschel Walker the very next day wishing him protection and support. The GOP circled the wagons at once and his campaign had record fund-raising. He was clearly a VICTIM! of a vicious left-wing smear of the kind that was entirely true but why did anyone have to be a bastard and TALK about it? Including his conservative son, who had finally reached his limit on discussing his father's messy as hell personal life, and understandably so.

Dana Loesch probably put it best when she said:

"I don’t care if Herschel Walker paid to abort endangered baby eagles," she said. "I want control of the Senate!"

Loesch went on to dismiss the significance of the Walker abortion claims in even starker terms.

"If the Daily Beast story is true, you're telling me Walker used his money to reportedly pay some skank for an abortion, and [Sen. Raphael Warnock] wants to use all of our moneys to pay a whole bunch of skanks for abortions," she said. "So, it doesn't change anything for me!"

It doesn't matter what kind of person Walker is, he's a Republican. And even if he was fucking around and paid for an abortion, it's the girlfriend who is the skank (that feels revealing). And "all of our moneys" to fund abortion--she isn't really considering abortion murder so much as the kind of health care she would rather not fund. Not that conservatives ever want to fund medical care.

Josh Hawley and the A-Gender

I think it's a really bold step forward for Josh Hawley. proponent of masculinity, to embrace the idea that as a species with low sexual dimorphism and an astonishing cultural versatility over history in expressing sexual roles, it is more accurate to describe the human species as having one gender (which is: "yas") and expressing it through a vast continuum of individual expressions. All of which are personally valid and should be culturally recognized.

Or it's just that after making a to-do over the definition of what a "woman" is, he promptly forgot about that. Which could happen to anyone, right?

Right?

OK, Carlson, You Got Me

Is this not a recipe for man-parts melanoma? (or other calamity I asked myself, agape and aghast at the genital microwaving (this link is cursed) I saw displayed. I mean, dudes looking to procreate wear loose boxers and try to give their boys air if they are having some difficulties, so treating your hotdog to the convenience store lamp treatment in order to boost vitamin "D" seems entirely counterintuitive (read: stupid as fuck). Frankly, the best things you can do to boost test (non-pharma) are get good sleep, eat good food, move your ass, and don't be stressed out as all fuck. You know what else boosts test? Winning at actual stuff, instead of being the kind of guy who obsesses over whether you are manly or not.

Gronk gets it. Beckham does, too. You are more than the sum of your hormones or social drag.

I am not going to ask myself if the intro cut was homoerotic, because worrying about that is far more the Dan White Society's president's problem than mine. And I find I do not care what Pee Wee Better in the Original German thinks about gender stuff, since he once described beating up a gay person in a men's room, and it sort became a thing conservatives worry about in bathrooms now, and want to persecute non-gender conforming people about in public restrooms because ack!--weird when people need to pee, right? Because maybe sex stuff? (Actually, not really. It just gets talked about.)

This man is so insecure he needs a passcode to grab his own dick in the john. This man is so insecure he supports pedophilia so long as it's the straight, very religiously-perversely-defended kind. (And women who own their own sexuality are whores. That's another extremely insecure thing.)

So yes, I find I need to mock Carlson because wow, this thing was so needy and so totally about his own toxic masculine gender conflict, but it feels like he totally laid it out as bait so gender-wise hipsters would skewer him and martyr his poor UV rayed in effigy man-bits with opprobrium that he could then point to the mean-ass libs as the witches who were stealing his penis?

Shut up you guys, I'm just a feminist asking questions.  And yes, I did the cock-robbin'. In the rest room with the lead pipe, And I would do it again!

Rob Regan and Republican Rape Culture

My dad also gave me advice about rape, without ever mentioning rape. He told me to aim the heel of my hand at the tip of someone's nose and follow through until I hit skull. I was never taught to lie back, let alone "enjoy" submission in the face of injustice. I was understood to be a human being, capable of understanding right from wrong, not a machine made to obey other people because they were supposed to be stronger than me. He didn't have to tell me when I would need to know that. He just figured it was something a girl should know.

Republicans have made some amazing statements about rape. It ranges from rape being God's plan to something a woman should just shrug off. Assuming the victim wanted it and then had second thoughts, instead of, well, lying back and enjoying it. The assumption is that the victim is in the wrong or was selected for a reason. The calculus of rationalization, the diminishing of the rapist's role, the assumption that, in some way, being sexually used is what women are for, infuses the argument. Not choice. Not positively being able to say no and having that denial of consent be respected.

Of Maus and Men, or America is Inclusive or it is Bullshit

The best slogan regarding feminism I ever came across was from Flavia Dzodan: My Feminism will be Intersectional or it will be Bullshit. I am here for anyone who is against the kyriarchy or who finds the kyriarchy is against them. This is my politics as well, and my aspiration for my country. I want America to be a refuge. My America is Inclusive or it is Bullshit. And that means the stories of everyone are welcome here. We don't exclude them or ban them. We can accept their truth, even if the story is lived experiences we can't or haven't all shared.

I don't understand people who can look at a graphic novel like "Maus" and count swear words and look for prurient content and miss literally everything else about it. How one could fail to see the qualitative education that transcends the basic reading/vocabulary skillset. I don't understand why anyone might view that rendering the Holocaust isn't necessary for people living in the 21st century. I don't understand why we shudder to teach our own history regarding slavery and the Civil War. I think the same onus exists for both things--we need to be honest about the perpetrators and the victims of history.

And it will be uncomfortable for everyone, because bad things are bad and sad things are sad. But what it doesn't need to be is about guilt. You can feel bad for what others experience, but you only feel guilt for what you have played a part in. And to be white and not even try and defend whiteness is a kind of freedom. I don't have white guilt, I have awareness. I feel free to acknowledge it and how it means that the trauma of the 21st century is something I only know 2nd hand.

Josh Hawley Tries So Durn Hard

More women are also watching porn and playing video games because these things are increasingly available due to technological advancements like getting wifi on your phone. It isn't deep. Porn is literally ancient. People play games for fun. It's the point. People do things they find fun. It's not a male thing. It's not a retreat from the cold cruel world. It's not the sturm und drang of opprobrium from the eternal and infernal female. It's just extremely convenient. And kind of fun.

Now, what manly men are supposed to do is become successful and find a good wife to occupy their definitely not porn and video game lifestyles. I guess. As if husbands time out of mind haven't fucked off to play pool or bowl or hang out at titty bars or catch a skin flick or whatever.  It passes the time. It's not some new obsession. It's really pretty trad--just the delivery medium has changed. Not all men are into these things, some always are. But that isn't a male-exclusive thing. (And it can be empowering, to women, but also sometimes doesn't feel that way.) Surprise--we're people.

Wow. The American Psycho is Strong With this One.

Mnnnkay, people, I was holding out by posting and deleting the dirt on Mr. First Trump campaign manager guy, because both he and Kristi Noem are fame whores with other shit on their plates besides whether they had an affair or not. I wasn't strapped in for the whole story yet, and I also f'd up the html. My bad.

So here's what is apparently up with them:

I mean, she's distracting from whether she used a campaign donation to send South Dakota National Guard to the border and whether she used her clout to try to get her daughter a real estate license, so what's an affair with Slappy McTrumpWorld other than a way to deflect from the rotten job she's doing? Can we verify she's knocking boots with Corey Marathon Man Lewadowski? Well we can verify she says she certainly isn't anymore

But what of Lewandowski--how is he doing? Well, he was accused of sexual harassment and stalking, but it might be worse than that:

Trashelle Odom, of Boise, Idaho, the wife of a construction company executive, claimed in the police report obtained by DailyMail.com that the married Lewandowski said that he 'was from a bad part of Boston and to have killed people,' while seated next to her at the charity dinner at the Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas on on September 26.
Odom claimed that on the night of the dinner - which she was personally invited to with South Dakota Gov Kristi Noem by American socialite Jackie Siegel - she was frightened when he allegedly told her: 'When I was 10, I stabbed someone over and over again, killing him. She added that the father-of-four told her that when he was older, he 'stabbed a man in the back of the head, also killing him'.

I don't even know who names their little baby girl "Trashelle" ("It's a family name, in the old country it was Sporcalina" my brain suggests)  but the real story is that the guy who pushed a female Breitbart reporter also thinks it's cool to talk about murdering people. And has also been accused of assault before. And even so, Trump had to be begged to let go of this creep. (And where does one apply to make Trump get rid of Jason Miller, also an incredible freaking creep? Who, whilst he is actually for now employed, should pay child support for his actual kids?)

Anyway, Kristi Noem is a terrible governor who has let COVID-19 ravage her state and might have dreams of running for higher office and Corey Lewandowski is like a made man of a crime family. He fucked up so he's going to lay low, but if he can still earn, he'll get up top again. And a persecution narrative might even help him.

But still and all--multiple knife murders? Like, is someone on this weird case or what?  Is that just a very toxic masculine man's pillow talk or is this a very messed up real life crime drama and shit? Inquiring minds want to know.

The Hostess With the Mostess?

Of the gross and galling things I've read this week, I guess the one that gives me the most amusement (FWIW) is this pretty accurate description of how men sometimes talk about female bodies, with this clip where a Republican politician refers to pregnant people as "host bodies" several times. See? The body is a host to the growing thing. An embryo or fetus. Which would make it a....parasite?

I can't even joke about antiparasitic drugs like Ivermectin because pregnant humans and other mammals have been dosed with antiparasitics, and the results about harmful effects to pregnancies are kind of inconclusive. But pregnant people seeking abortions deliberately have dosed with any number of things deliberately, such as pennyroyal oil, with grave physical consequences. Because of the amounts used to make sure the job was done, because of the grave contraindications pregnancy and childbirth have had for living one's life in so many circumstances. The social and financial repercussions. The physical complications

Describing a pregnancy in the stark terms of "host bodies" neatly erases the whole woman-body/mind that experiences the pregnancy, while also inadvertently labelling the pregnancy as a "parasite"--a burden meant to be gotten rid of.  Like a pox, or a burden. Or a punishment for having sex that isn't "consequence-free". (Because the birth control failed--but that's next, I think.)

I don't doubt though, that the people who passed this law and the people who support it are ignorant as hell about how it will affect women. I mean, look at this beardo:

M'kay--this guy does not seem to know how menstrual cycles work, which is not actually shocking even here in the 21st century, somehow.  But like, does he think a "Check Uterus" light comes on when a woman catches pregnant and they're just ignoring it for the next 6,000 miles or what?

Straight as a Plumb Bob

I genuinely don't know what this is, and because Rep. Paul Gosar, DDS, is likely to get Tweet-yeeted eventually for insurrection stuff, I will screen cap it:

It's a picture of himself, hand in pocket, apparently using an arrow to demonstrate that he is standing very straight. It reminded me at once of Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden, when the protagonist, Mary, advises her cousin Colin that he hasn't a hump at all and she thinks he's ridiculous. His back is as "strong and straight as any boy in Yorkshire" it is!

Gosar also Tweets some other pics, which leads me to wonder if this is a game--I think I've got this right:

Of course, this is ableist crap and I don't want to play anymore--I have a touch of scoliosis myself (which causes my traps to look peculiarly pronounced and tilts my head forward a smidge, not that you'd know if I never said since few have seen me IRL), and Gosar is so healthy (like a horse, he says!) he doesn't even need ivermectin. And everyone bends at some point, or leans or changes position, so long as one doesn't have rigor mortis!

Without much more context, I'm at a loss to determine if this is a commentary on his health, his manhood, his "virtue", or whether he's trying to convince us all that his fingers are not at all long enough to be poking the bulge the arrow is pointing to through his pocket.

I think regardless of the picture, there's something very twisted about Gosar, and his family seems to think so, too. And he might not like to be called a white supremacist, but why are all these white supremacists right the hell with him?

Many people can stand up physically straight. But that doesn't mean they aren't standing for crookedness, deceit and lies over and over again.

UPDATE: And is this weirdo actually being like: "also I am straighter than these cactus", because my stars and garters I am not a Freudian analyst but really?

UPDATE 2: Wow! Okay, following on what commenter Eddie Blake said about the incel thing, I looked about and huh! So, a grown-ass man and actual elected representative of the people is going in for the goofy-ass aesthetic rantings of a shitposter? And yet, no, that's exactly where I think we are on the whole Republican decline deal. Clown shoes, shitposting, snake oil sales and Christianist Daesh.

Or People Could Just Mind Their Own Business

This is a very deeply weird thing to decide: that leftists hate babies. Now, I am not their biggest fan, largely for aesthetic reasons. Often they are so basic and derivative of their parents. (Given what we know, the recent Domenech child is probably a cut and paste job.)  Also they are lousy conversationalists and not one of them can mix a proper drink. But as a general rule, I think of having children like getting a pool or a nipple piercing--it isn't my thing, but if it's yours, you just go ahead and be sure to take care of it.

The argument is that children are a refutation of the left.  I've never felt refuted by them--frankly, a lot of what I want, like a cleaner environment and good schools and access to health care, is about people being able to raise their kids knowing they will have opportunities to live up to their potential. I'd love it if maternity was medically safe for all people, that the kids in this world could be sure of being homed, fed, and educated well, and that we were leaving a safe, and not-stupid world for them to live in--I'm pretty committed to it!

But some of what he's saying is just dumb--

Children are brave—terrifyingly brave. Girls are fierce and independent. Boys are heroically reckless. They are not the helpless, timid victims leftists say people are. Just as important, neither are we. That’s the Left’s real problem with children: they create families. They turn boys into men, couples into parents, and women into the archangels we call moms
.Children are terrifyingly brave because they have no concept of consequences--that is learned over time. They do stupid things and we have to childproof the electric sockets and keep sharp things and household chemicals away from them. They might not be timid, but I'm pretty damn sure you wouldn't leave them all to themselves or think they can talk to any old stranger or would count on them to have your back in a knife fight. Parenting is, near as I can tell, steering kids away from being victims (and some parents are absolutely shit at that by victimizing their kids first off) but what about the sexism! Men without children aren't real patriarchs. Women without children aren't "archangels"
