The Harris Plan--Supporting Our Values

What if the way to support families and the middle class was to put our money where our values are and invest in the changes we want to see to make life better for the average American?

It's a loaded question, and I get why some folks would be mad--supporting new families and encouraging homeownership are fine things for people who want to talk about financial security for households to reference, but actually doing something about it? Isn't that the business of other people to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps about?

Look, I used to do a feature on this blog about our "Know Your Class War" and just like "Climate Sunday", it fell by the wayside because we have a first-world economy with disastrous outcomes in terms of health, happiness, and upward mobility in general. Democrats have, through measures like Social Security, Medicare, the ACA, and others--actually tried to do something about this. Republicans usually dub these measures "Communism".  (See Reagan and Medicare.)

This Was Not Resistance

Hundreds of young concert-goers were killed, survivors were raped. They were young people: not the oppressors. Resistance discriminates. It uses necessary force. This was blood lust. This is why I don't feel a part of the far left: they suck. The DSA constantly uses division and smug up-fuckery to fail to accomplish even the merest goals. I noticed fucking PLO posters carried during the anti-Iraq war march 20 years ago. Fuck, people. Concentrate on one clear atrocity and stop being fellow travelers with bullshit.

For example, Codepink dressed in weird costumes and played Pick-me Progressives and did nothing to end the Iraq or Afghanistan Wars because no one took them seriously. They protested against striking on ISIS. Also against striking Assad for the chem attacks, which I in retrospect wish Obama did. Because fuck that guy.

And here's Code Pink seen just recently snuggling up to Marjorie Taylor Green's gym-sweaty armpit:

Being exactly who one might expect:

Palestinians have every right to resist with force up to and including the murder of civilians and rape currently being committed by HAMAS, but Ukraine does not have the right to resist the murdering and rapist Russians who are hell-bent on occupying them? Ok. That's certainly...a take.

While They Were in the Nursery

Things had come to such a petty pass when last I blogged that I took a small break in the hopes that the revelation of so much smallness would not, actually, shrink my spirit like cotton trousers in a warm soak. The American Rescue Act passed, and not a single Republican wanted dick to do with it. Dr. Seuss they have time for. (I hear there there are more important things.) Mr. Potato Head they have time for. They will make time for lecherous cartoon skunks--before they bother with the needs of the American working class, who have been battered by the COVID-19 recession, and have been alternately told they are "essential" and treated like they are expendable if not disposable, and small businesses that need a helping hand.

But when I saw Thursday night what we'd been missing for so long, I found myself back on my blogular bullshit. We have an adult in the White House now and the Republicans don't know how to act. Our dad kicked their dad's ass on the electoral playground and now he's kicking him in the nuts every chance he gets and they're big mad, you guys. I mean, sure, Biden is more popular than Trump ever was, but like, Trump was president, um, too? And did a job of it, right? Very productive!

And while we're at it, where's Trump's participation trophy for throwing money at pharmaceutical companies to get a vaccine going and only getting like, half a million people killed?

Okay. Here:

Let's call it the Donald J. Trump "What Have You Got to Lose?" trophy and let him stick it wherever he puts his newspaper clippings about getting nominated for the Nobel Prize, right by the portraits of himself he bought with his fake-charity slush fund money and his also fake Time Magazine covers, because the real ones aren't always that flattering.

But I've already spent too much breath on Trump, haven't I? (Hasn't everyone?) The real story is how the GOP had no after-Trump plan, and now they have nothing at all but "not whatever Democrats want". And since Democrats just mostly want good government and our people not dying, broke, or sick, um, what they want looks bad, actually.

Also they want to suppress people voting because of course they do. They've given up on expanding their map and have definitely reached the "quiet parts out loud" part of their desperation--but it's okay, because they kind of think the Supreme Court is with them on this. I mean, compare what the representative from AZ said with Buckley and Bozell from another era. (The sins of the fathers, etc.) They can't win on the kitchen table talk, so they want a culture war.

But what does that even mean, anymore? When Marco Rubio sides with an Amazon union bid because of culture war--it means less than nothing. When alt-right gadfly Milo Yiannopoulos declares himself an ex-gay for attention, we get a little nearer to whatever minute we're in now on the conservative clock (or check with Andrew Sullivan, still gay but basically a phrenologist).

The conservative case seems to be a whole battle with the entire arc of history. (For everyone bending the arc of history towards justice, there's these pricks, riding athwart with dragging spurs yelling "stop".) The concept of time, even. The idea of getting out of the nursery. It's meatheads who practically swallow their tongues in the face of men who aren't their kind of manly and women who aren't their kind of feminine, families that don't look like the dolls that came with their dollhouse playset and human beings that aren't easily labeled. Who might be from somewhere else or even have a different idea of God.

So here's my take--I don't want unity with toddlers who break their toys and have tantrums when they don't get things their way, and who don't see others, for example, atheist, feminist and queer, or in any other way multicultural or diverse, or divergent in perspective, as deserving of respect or recognition. The GOP lost me when I was in the nursery, and so were they--when the Silent Majority of Nixon gave way to Reaganism, trickle down, and the culture war I always kind of thought was a little bit personal--against me.

They are still in the nursery, and have opinions about, I guess, reefer madness. But we need to move on, even if Republicans aren't coming. So I just don't give a shit about unity or bipartisanship. I care about doing what works and protecting real people, not cartoon characters and plastic spuds. I hope Republicans get over their Trump-Daddy issues eventually, but they can't hold up fucking progress.

BRB--Attacking and Dethroning God

Apparently, this was a thing on Laura Ingraham's show the other night, which is really weird, because Weather Underground hasn't been a thing since the 1970's and this curious to-do list, culminating in, amusingly enough, "Attack and dethrone God" doesn't necessarily line up with all of the goals of the group--like, I wonder about "The weapon of choice--systemic racism and police racism." Pointing it out would be the actual weapon here since it's part of the structure that has to be changed, but I quibble.

Look, it's 2020. We can literally turn on a device we carry in our pockets to view evidence of police brutality and racism. Human beings are miserable to one another. And I don't even think the people who uphold that viciousness do it for the sake of upholding capitalism--they do it because they can. Because it fits a hierarchy that needs to exist for them, a pecking order, if you will. A top-dog, bottom bitch order, a cosmology into which one can also fit misogyny and homophobia and transphobia.  They do it because it gives them, for what it's worth, purpose.

I don't decry systemic racism and police brutality as a leftist--I do it as a moral person. To my mind, all persons are equal in their humanity and the fragility and dignity at once of their lives. Religion can decry racism and support human dignity.  It doesn't always, and has been used to reinforce the hierarchy as well. I just don't happen to believe. But viewing The Left as "attacking and dethroning God" strikes me as being an awful lot about calling liberals "socialists" and "godless commies" and claiming that leftism lacks a moral impetus. It's a pretty long-standing trope.

It's one I've seen the White House use, lately. Kayleigh McEnany recently described the WH press pool as a room full of people who desperately wanted churches to stay closed, trying to play on the idea of the so-called "liberal media." White House counselor Kellyanne Conway actually dressed-down a cleric for her opinion of Trump's photo-op, by trying to pose as morally superior for being able to temporarily forget what a photo-op is.

To both of them, a part of me even came close to wanting a deity, to presume upon them: "If you do believe, don't you think your god can hear you lie?"

I mean, are we really in 2020 going to arm wrestle about the Great Chain of Being and all that?

*Sigh* Not me, babe. I'm all about the Enlightenment values all day, everyday. I thought we already won this one. But since I'm off-gassing about the right-wing fuckery once again, what about the Antifa hoaxes?  And does Trump and them actually believe that shit or what?

I'm for yes. Paranoid style and all that. After all, poster child of "whatever happened to" once decent journalist Lara Logan is straight-up passing on Antifa bullshit like a MAGA hatted Qanon Facebook aunt no longer invited to the family reunion. And apparently elected officials close to TrumpWorld just trust and believe in random circulars

stuffed under their windshields, so good for you, future Tony Alamo fan club guy. (And this dude tagged in all of right-wing media like "Yes, please, report on this thing I found like it was real because um hm! Real!") (No I'm back in my parentheticals--"Fascist Republicans must not be allowed to live!" all caps wow! This is serious business worthy of your immediate attention! YES! It reads like a Bronner soap label taken over by Glen Beck's blackboard: scary shadow Soros operative, only very obvious and projecting.)

My blog's too short to box with God. I used to do more atheist posts maybe a decade ago. But I could goof on dumbasses who think the Antifa hordes of "The Left" including Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi and the Squad and lots of other, mostly female and POC folks, are attacking God and man all day. And I remain, as ever, antifascist.

Easy as ABC

Let's say you are the head of a major mainstream television news division, and you have discovered that Project Veritas has uncovered your terrible secret: you have hired human beings within your company that have (GASP!) personal viewpoints when they are off the clock and sometimes even discuss them during what they believe to be a private conversation. Keep in mind: You are a major mainstream television news and they are Project Veritas. What do you do?

The actual answer is, you should laugh at Project fucking Veritas for pretending they've uncovered media bias, for the simple fact that this is not, actually, a test of your journalism but a stunt pulled by the dildo boat asshole and his friends who are, specifically, right wing activists. They aren't out there punking OANN for nonbiased journamalism. They are up the major networks' butts for fun and profit.

Ironically, the only game Wright gave away was explaining that he and others were kept on a leash to not challenge the Trump Administration strongly for fear of appearing biased, or admit when Trump got things right.

Wright and a man identified as producer Andy Fies also discuss a bevvy of complaints about broadcast news, many of which echo widespread gripes about the horserace nature of political journalism writ large.

They had especially harsh words for their employer about its coverage of President Donald Trump, who Wright at one point refers to as "this f--king president," complaining that Trump has put news outlets in "an awkward moment" where "we can’t figure out how to challenge him."

“We don’t hold him to account,” Wright says in the video, the subtitles for which indicate that he is referring to the president. “We also don’t give him credit for what things he does do.”

Fuck. There was the opportunity to seize on that and admit to just trying too hard to please everyone for the corporate brand, and welp--promise to just try harder to hold everyone properly accountable in future, thanks for the object lesson, assholes from Project Vertas. What we see from ABC is a big company backed by a bigger company, a giant, cringing before a flea.

ABC, what does your news division stand for, that it is harassed by a wholly partisan troll organization into determining your personnel decisions for you? That feels like giving away power to those who did nothing, not one thing, to deserve it. ABC wired a part of their credibility, like so many dollars to a con artist,to dumbass activist dorks.

And it looked so easy. Easy as ABC.

No Holiday in Cambodia

This is probably deeply ill-advised of me to notice, but I'm a Gen-X blogger who realized a long time ago that I'm not really presidential material (even if the fitness of the current resident makes even me and my tattoos feel a little like, what the hell? Y not?) so let me just say--wow, but by the visibly melting frame of the yet-living Hank Kissinger, are we really going to go through whether the left-liberalism calling itself democratic socialism is kinda Khmer Rougey and not take notice of the entire right-wing foreign policy failure at influencing positive change with respects to....

Why, no. No we are not doing that. Or at least, you go ahead and do that history dissertation if you've a mind, but:  This is actually just my usual warning that conservative rhetoric is inflammatory and that inflammatory rhetoric is really the thing we should worry about regarding genocide, not mere issues of domestic economy. Because conservatives have been doing this thing with inflammatory and violent rhetoric. And sometimes it results in bad things.

The Dirtiest Word He Knows

So, when we went from the original thirteen to fifty states, what the hell would Mitch McConnell call that? (Maybe we've always been socialists?!) But I think McConnell clearly sees a distinction from how the United States expanded its map via manifest destiny to what statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C. entails, and it's all of a piece with the GOP's love of gerrymandering and voter ID laws.

But, of course, socialism is just a "dirty word" to sling around meaning "a thing Democrats would like".

TWGB: It's Raining Shoes!
