So, it feels like it's just Monday, right? Trump posts a video to Truth Social proposing that his second term will be a "UNIFIED REICH"--look, I've been keeping track (here's a sampler from just one particular year) of the giggling "vice-signaling" that Republicans do--effectively winking "We're just playing at being Nazis, you're so silly" when the punchline is: "Oh hell yeah, we are doing totally Nazi stuff given the chance." Rounding up and deporting people in quantities. Monitoring pregnant people for signs they have taken steps to end their pregnancies. Banning and burning books Culture war.
With Trump, it's attention-seeking, and not. It's a show of what he can get away with. It's the sort of thing he does --just like his Goon army in front of the NY courthouse that undermines the rule of law--and you never know who might show up:

Trump has all kinds of friends. Congresspeople. Proud Boys. Oath Keepers. Bikers for Trump. Former Hell's Angels. Think back to when he touted an endorsement from Sammy "The Bull" Gravano. How his MAGAMoron Tabernacle Choir keep mentioning Judge Merchan's daughter--they are saying that they don't respect the law, but power. And with that power is the implication of physical violence.
Invoking Nazis is implied violence. And it is not a wink or a joke. And for anyone who wants to suggest Trump did not post that himself, but a staffer did--what does that say about the people who surround him? (Like his loyalists, who will either deny seeing the post or defend him tomorrow?)
He is unfit and Un-American and the party that supports him has forgotten what American values even are.

It's all part of the promise--laws will be suspended for loyalty, disloyalty will be punished. So, his favored crooks will be esteemed. Decent public servants (and their families) will be defamed, like Merchan, or fired (like his proposed purges). He claims he did more than Lincoln for Black people and Jews who don't vote for him should have their heads examined.
He has done shit for anyone. He let old and disabled people die on purpose during Covid.
He is the Goon King, the Lord of Misrule. He promised he would protect queer people over the dead bodies of the Pulse nightclub victims and queer people are the first he'd throw under the bus for his evangelical followers' approval.
He toys with the trappings--but we already saw his act in progress during his first term. The news media can't connect the dots that someone who wanted to stock a moat full of alligators at the border and shoot the knees of migrants is exactly what he plays at--a full-on fascist. And accept what it means about his supporters. It would make their fascist GOP friends so mad to say it out loud. A real party-ruiner. They may be denied the best invitations. The canapes! The ACCESS! The HORROR!
Because the editorialists lack the imagination to see the real horror is already unfolding. Since Gitmo and Free Speech zones. There's a throughline, and they play with it like a cat plays with the reflection of a flashlight beam, not thinking about where it comes from or where it's going.
