Lara Trump Has Caveats

Very much agree--Trump will back out, and no sooner did he agree to debates than TrumpWorld is trying to plan an "out" for him. First, he tries to manufacture a Fox debate that Biden "has" to agree to:

And then right-wing commentators run with the idea that for some reason, Dana Bash and Jake Tapper are basically the Symbionese Liberation Army. But anyway, I do have to agree with Lara Trump (whose face is starting to become wildly distracting, like a funeral announcement in comic sans) that things are rigged politically against her father-in-law (who installed a family member as the head of his party so he could hork up maximum legal bill payments) because he is so wildly inappropriate and unfit for any office.

He cheats on his wives, his taxes, in his business, and held three rallies called "Stop the Steal" relating to the 2020 election when he legitimately lost and was, in fact, trying to steal the election himself via the fake electors' scheme. Truly, this is the kind of thing she can talk about with a straight face because, I daresay, what TF else is her face even doing?

Whatever. The laws of this country are rigged against Trump because they forbid him from doing things he likes to do, like not pay for things and lie to people to take their money. Why not try to tell people that if there will be no audience to play to, no ability to filibuster, and the odd chance of being fact-checked because Trump lies all the time, he doesn't want to play? He will simply gather his little balls and go home.

I get that she has a job to do. The RNC, even in its softened-up state, isn't going to become Trumps cash cow and enforcement apparatus without even more buttloads of propaganda, but if her blood was more full of irony she'd rust to death.

But she is family, and she sees the grandfather of her kids in a more intimate way than we very superficially do as he sleeps in court and rambles at rallies, air-dicking and strutting to the oldies, just like he DJ's at Mar-a-Lago, which sometimes looks like a retirement home for elderly sex workers. Or like an absurdist movie where every character has dressed in costume for a play, but not for the same one.

She knows he can't debate fairly. She has caveats. She wants to use Trump's famous term: "rigged." The Emmy's were rigged against his show. 2016 was rigged even though he won. Just not by enough. The media is rigged because they tell on him. Courts are rigged because they don't recognize his natural immunity.

But we can all smell the cop-out, right? He's not debating the hosts at CNN or ABC, but Biden. And Biden clearly thinks he can kick Donald's saggy ass. And Donald thinks he needs help. And yes, he does

He should stop running for office and truly go get that help. His family is clearly worried, but they haven't figured out how to be worried about the right things.

I'm somewhat obsessed with how dead her eyes look. I'm reminded of Charlie Pierce's great description of Paul Ryan, back in the day: "zombie-eyed granny starver."

IDK if it's bad contact lenses or what, but look at any clip of her on any "news" show, and I think you'll see what I mean.
