So, Iowa Picked the Rapist with 91 Felony counts?

I don't especially enjoy the primary season because the idea of caucuses themselves are dense and dumb to me--what the whole fuck is going on with those? People are dropping votes randomly into paper bags and empty popcorn buckets. Who knows who is showing up? (I see no ID's in the deep freeze, they don't need these when the voters are all Y.T.'s.)

And then there's Iowa itself--an entire state that feels like a FOX news set-up in a rural PA diner no more than ten miles from the nearest militia training site. What gets me is the state gets these political creatures camping out among them, speechifying at them, trying to shake hands with them for at least six months out of the year, and when the inevitable man/woman-in the street interviews take place, they just say the most normie, uninformed things. Like, one guy was hung up on where Vivek Ramaswamy was from because of 9/11. There were no Hindu people with Indian ancestry having anything to do with that. And if he was concerned, how about looking up anything at all ever? Candidates do townhalls, have debates, have featured articles in newspapers and magazines and there's FUCKING WIKIPEDIA and some dolt allowed to vote doesn't know where this man's people are from. OR who did 9/11.

One young lady said she was just thinking about Jesus and how he died for our sins, and wasn't that why Trump was going through all these trials? No, damn it, I want to yell--you weren't thinking that; Trump and every asshole warming up the crowds for him told you that and it somehow drilled its way into the thing you pick out sandwich fixin's with. Being in trouble for defaming one of his rape/assault/harassment victims has NOTHING to do with you. He stole government docs belonging to the US Gov't which is basically all of us, and that is a crime against you. The insurrection was a crime against our government. Also against you

How in the hell did about half the caucus goers decide the guy who has been determined to be a rapist and a fraud, is twice-impeached, and had a whole bathroom's worth of White House docs, PLUS, horked out of his Florida home is still somehow fit to be president?

So like, 2/3rds of the GOP voters last night think it's okay for Trump to be president if convicted of--anything, and also, about that many think Biden didn't win legitimately.

Could it be because major conservative politicians and conservative media still say these things and treat them as true?

That shit is dysfunctional. There is no proof at all of voter fraud. And here's a thought that bothers me--if voter fraud is so obviously possible to Republicans, why don't they ever assume it is equally a thing Democrats AND Republicans could be doing? If mail-in ballot fraud was a thing, what stops Republicans from making MASSIVE TRUMP DUMPS?

Ah, but the fly in the ointment is representation--is what we get out of The Rural Christian People's Republic of Iowa a real picture of the electorate? Is it even a real picture of Iowa. Fuck if it was that cold and a foregone conclusion Trump won the caucus (they called it while people were still voting, which feels RIGGED AND STOLLEN TO ME)--maybe there's a reason Trump people (cult members) showed up and DeSantis and Haley people didn't (because they weren't going to win, and never showed they could fight).

DeSantis and Haley could have taken the gloves off early and just pointed out that Trump was old, twice impeached, lost 2020, and now had so many trials to attend he barely had time to run a good race. They could have hit him in the slats all day every day if they meant to beat him. He's mean. He rambles. He doesn't know basic stuff. He paints himself a more alarming shade of copper everyday and we are supposed to pretend that's normal. But they felt like important things like avoiding whether 2020 made him a loser and whether him going to prison would cramp his style were just off the table to discuss.

So they didn't? (What kind of advisors DON'T say hit your opponent where they are weakest?)

They didn't, and they won't. They didn't act like people who wanted to beat Trump, just like Ted Cruz and Lil' Marco, who both just endorsed him AGAIN, could barely find the stones to properly do in 2016.

How could Trump fail to grab a party of such pussies? Hey--when you starred in Celebrity Apprentice they just let you do it!

the thing that kills me is when the perrys, biggs', empty gees, gaetzs, gosars cruzs, hawleys, tubbys, lees and pauls go on and ON and on about voter fraud and the illegitimate election of joe biden while they were ALL ELECTED ALONG WITH BIDEN. if his victory is fraudulent, how in the nine fucking realms are theirs NOT?

Like almost half of Americans in general, the voters in Iowa believe what Trump and his handlers tell them, all the time. Doesn't matter if the messages are contradictory or even if they actually confirm that Trump IS a criminal because these voters don't care: it's a cult whose leader can say or do pretty much anything without consequence. Who knew Americans would be so gullible if only our ignorance and worst prejudices are pandered to.

There is something to the idea that Trumpism is a cult, and the believers are "post-truth"--they don't have facts, they have articles of faith, and faith doesn't require proof. They are dialed-in to what they need to say to be politically-correct for the values of their tribal affiliation. This is why the Republican memory can't always sort out who was president when, because they would badly like bad things to have happened when "the other team" was in charge. (There's a story on people "misremembering" that Obama was president during Hurricane Katrina out there.)

This "understanding" of how the GOP faithful think is why Republicans in congress believe securing the border is both a crisis that needs to be handled RIGHT NOW! but also one they could happily do nothing about for the next year if Biden gets any credit. It's like a Jedi mind trick. (It works on the weak-minded, we've been told.)
