He's Still Crazy, Though

The market performed extremely well after Trump announced by way of social media that things would be somewhat less stupid, but make no mistake, they are still fairly stupid. We still have the potential for a recession. We still have a trade war with China, and 10% reciprocal tariffs, and it's a 90-day pause, not an admission that the whole tariff scheme is stupid, and we might not even be in for 90 days of an actual pause since Trump is, in fact. nuts.

Basically, Trump reacted to the reaction. He admitted himself that the pause was because people were "yippy." Are we looking at a case of masterful strategery on his part?  Let's just say it caught some advisers by surprise (mid-defense of Trump's policy, no less), but we're pretty sure not everyone.

I'm not sure too many people would be shocked to find there has been gambling in this establishment.

So where are we? Well, Trump has sewed distrust in the US, the market hasn't recovered all it's value--it might, but you know who loves drama? That guy. And Trump and pals should be investigated and will be investigated for a sort of insider trading--but where is it even going to go? And what trade concessions did he really even get?

Meanwhile, because Trump's close economic advisers got him to do something he really didn't want to do (pause the destruction) he got to go ahead and have his treat--a bit of authoritarian enemy-punishing, ordering investigations into two first- term administration aides who criticized him.

President Donald Trump is targeting two former first-term appointees over their criticism of his actions, stripping their security clearances and opening federal probes of their tenures.

The directives that Trump signed on Wednesday order the Justice Department to scrutinize Chris Krebs, who ran Trump’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and former senior Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor.

Trump and his administration are still seriously insane and badly corrupt and definitely stupid. But nonetheless, dangerous. And fresh stupidity and insanity will surely greet us with the dawn.

i wouldn't call them "reciprocal" tariffs because there weren't any substantive ones to reciprocate to. that's just their propaganda at work, with the whole DARVO mentality in full effect. they're the victims, you see, so they HAVE to lash out at the nasty EU, the crafty chinese, the filthy penguins and hobbitses.

they're ARBITRARY tariffs. a massive tax increase on american citizens from the party that swore a blood oath to grover norquist to NEVER raise taxes...
