Memory is a motherfucker. That's something I picked up from Death and Other Details. But also from reality. Grief doesn't fix things into stone, like when you lost someone. You still have them, as a part of you, like a phantom limb, wearing their conversations in your mind. It can be a comfort and not a comfort all at once. You might know facts intellectually, but they don't exist in your lived reality. It's like two things, overlapping--what did happen, and what it feels like.
Being human, being mortal, is weird. It just is. But the funny old thing is, Joe Biden is actually tracking quite well with reality. He has a lot of life experience. He can tell you about it in great detail. Damn near photographically. He also has had access to classified information and knows very well what to do and not to do with it. And his situation was not one damn thing like former President Trump's. There is no way to determine intentionality with what was retained by Biden, and some of what Hur looked at was diaries that were not a part of the PRA. Hur's characterization of Biden's memory was gratuitous and biased.
And I think the hearing today rather demonstrated that for anyone who wanted to look and see. Comparisons to Trump, for example, always fall apart when you look at the actual things Trump says and does. And while the supergenius witchfinder generals were checking out what Hur really had to say about Biden's fitness, they allowed two brutal compilations of Trump's mental lapses to be shown.
This is epic. Rep. Swalwell just played this minute-long montage featuring Trump’s gaffes and mental decline. The best part about it? He forced Fox to carry it live to their audience too. Democrats came to play today & it’s glorious. pic.twitter.com/HFeheBBc4F

Rep. Jerry Nadler furnished the other one.
It's not a pretty picture. It really looks like the GOP tried to use Biden's grief and age as reasons to skewer him as unfit, when he is actually quite fit and capable. And Hur was indifferently capable of screwing him over even if he was the kind of guy that justified firing Andy McCabe before he got his pension and other nasty little shit like that. And this was to benefit one Donald J. Trump, a moldybrains who is a rapist, a racist, and a light treasoner.
One who just captured the RNC and has an opponent in the GOP primaries still get 15% despite dropping out. It suggests a significant "Never-Trump" backlash. One of his election-denying lawyers just became part of the RNC election integrity squad. WTF? (This is the same font of brilliance that signed off on Trump handing over all his purloined letters when he certainly had not.)
Anyway what was I saying? Oh. if you are to have any sort of lapse of credibility or memory, there are multiple ways to do it--
But don't make Hur's yours.
