When I see the suggestion that to avoid a violent civil conflict, we have to entertain the idea that Trump gets away with an attempted insurrection and collecting national security documents for his own purposes as if we had no imagination whatsoever about what a "disgruntled former employee" would want to do with such material. I can't help but feel like "what in the whole fuck are you a human being in the world with the rest of us thinking about, give me an entire fucking break."
Trump's little fan club believes in power. Trump doesn't have that much anymore--outside of his little fan club. You remember Cesar Sayoc and his mail bombs and maybe some dozen or so Trump fans who penetrated the veil between our tolerance of Trump's violence-fluffing and its actual conception. Well, after 1/6, and the deaths of some insurrectionists and LE officers alike, how are we pretending his rhetoric doesn't matter, and after the most recent breach of his faith to lawfully uphold our Constitutional government, we see once again he was inept and unfit to do it, why are we pretending it's okay to just not prosecute him for the damage he's done?
His lawyers are flouting that he can raise a riot. They should not be engaging in that kind of threat--even a good mob-lawyer would be more circumspect about how a "Don" would exercise his various mayhem-related options. But just as with his Administration, Trump still can't get the best people. Because the best people understand very well who he is.
If we opt to live in fear of what the Trump fanclub is expected to do, we are leasing power to them they haven't earned. Let them do their worst and let the courts do what has to be done with them, These monkeys don't stop the show. Their enablers in the GOP congress need to be called out to their face for their sheer clownery. They gave their support to street thugs. They don't get to intellectualize this breach of the civil order away. They need it pushed up in their faces.
How about Ford pardoning Nixon was a fucking mistake, and Barr letting GWHB pardon the Iran/Contra assholes was a disaster for the republic? How about Barr scuttling the Mueller report was unforgiveable? What if Republicans have been an ongoing breach of faith and trust in the system because they always have to diminish the efforts of law enforcement because of their many lies and gross indiscretions? Because I am ready to tell you about how Newt Gingrich should get on his pudgy knees that Denny Hastert ensured he wasn't the worst GOP Speaker of the house in recent memory. The GOP is a body of sinful shits. People who benefitted from the same system they want Trump to benefit from, even if his sins are more unspeakable.
They are. Insurrection. At the very least, if he was trying to hold onto 1/6 docs, obstruction of justice. Treason, if he's making national security shit known to others. I am very not inclined to give him the benefit of any doubt at all. At all.

Traitor seem an appropriate label at this point. One angle on this shit show I've not heard anything about: all of these most sensitive materials Trump walked off with are supposed to be very closely watched and accounted for by someone who, obviously, has top secret clearance. Maybe I'm hopelessly naive but WTF happened? How did Trump manage to bypass all the checks and balances we've heard about and how did the watchers drop the ball so spectacularly?
