There is a rumor about one of our GOP congresspeople that I want to obliquely address because it is not well-founded and the timeline doesn't necessarily make a lot of sense. The person in question is not someone I am a fan of, in fact, I think she is a clown who cheapens the political discourse and has no real interest in government policy as much as signifying and showing herself.
I will not ever call out someone for fucking for money, because if you know what it is to need the money, you get it. And I also don't think anyone's abortion is immoral. If you ever did sex work or terminated a pregnancy for reasons--those are your reasons, and I don't come at someone for that. But if you ever have been there, a sex worker, or having had emergency reproductive care, you don't get to judge other people about what they have done for their lives. Good for me and not for thee isn't morality, it's just selfish and judgmental. She has done other things.
So, this particular political figure has been coming across with absurd Christian Nationalism lately, because it's been the latter-day Gotterdammerung of the White Replacement Gods thing, mostly initiated by "woke" casting of Marvel superhero movies by Disney Studios. (I'm guessing here. The world and the brands are too much with me, late and soon. I could just be snarking, though.) She thinks Jesus could have used AR-15s to overthrow the Roman empire instead of just having his message simmer until Constantine.
If Jesus had superior firepower and never died on the cross for our sins, "we" (for a value of we that means saved Christians) never would have been saved. That's very weird theology she has. Hosts of angels could have just delivered man from sin on that precipice instead of the Son of Man suffering in the body and experiencing human death for us. It's like she enjoys the idea of the gun and Christians warring physically against supposed heathens more than she appreciates the spiritual struggle of the soul towards salvation by rejection of the vanities of the moment.
Mostly because she is right here, an attention-whore, in the moment.
I don't know that she served as an escort ever because obviously running a restaurant is a money-suck if you've ever watched "Kitchen Nightmares" and her husband never made good money until she elected to run for political office. Maybe she might have had that struggle, even as a young mother with little ones to feed. I don't think she ran into some Koch brother heir or banged Ted Cruz, because for a lot of reasons, I don't want to consider once again whether Ted Cruz gets more ass than a donkey sanctuary. Also that feels like bait.
She's a political opportunist and a firebrand and I don't need weird rumors to think she's a bad one. But the idea that she might have been an escort or had an abortion feel like grist for a conservative mill, not mine.
And I don't want to play in that sandlot.
If leftists play with this rubbish, we are the hypocrites. She can always pretend to have "come to Jesus" and had her sins washed. A penitent Magdalene. We have no horse here. She has a primary opponent and the idea is probably her district has a better conservative, not a Dem. It's not my fight. I dislike her theocratic bullshit, though--like who does she think she is?
