Fox News opinion host Laura Ingraham’s earnest efforts to troll liberals reached a new, if not bizarre, level as she attempted to drink a steak stuffed with incandescent light bulbs through a plastic straw. https://t.co/3AUfeTKVOV

I may not know a lot about art, but I know what I like.

Vixen, you are charitable to think of Laura Ingraham as an intellectual. The last intellectual I saw on TV was William Buckley, Jr.
Today we have a bunch of media personalities on the right and left who probably wouldn't know an intellectual if they bumped into one in the dark. This denigration of the public sphere is typical of the Kali Yuga, and probably it will just continue to get worse. The attempted manipulation of the public has reached proportions that defy satirization. Believe it or not, people used to have a more intelligent point of view after reading Life magazine, Look, and Time, that would have articles by Oppenheimer, Paul Tillich, Ernest Hemingway, and a huge number of other notables. It's a shame. Public discourse in the United States has become a joke. A real conservative intellectual would be someone like Thomas Sowell.
However, I can tell you in part why this is happening. Both parties have discovered that they make more money fundraising if they cater to the extremes of their parties. Apparently there is a lot more passion when you can reach groups that are a little unhinged. And as a consequence naturally, politics will follow where the money is.
Used car salesmen are not intellectuals.
