Trump warns against U.S. accepting Bahamian refugees who survived Hurricane Dorian— David Begnaud (@DavidBegnaud) September 9, 2019
Trump: “I don’t want to allow people that weren’t supposed to be in the Bahamas to come into the (U.S.) — including some very bad people & very bad gang members.” https://t.co/fqnnxFkijd
It's not that today was a slow news day, mind you, that I found it to be day with no surprises. If Trump tries to justify not letting Bahamian refugees into this country because he thinks there might be some "very bad people", why, how is that a surprise when he's used the same justifications for barring migration from Central and South America and banning Muslims? It might seem shockingly racist and xenophobic, in addition to being mind-blowingly cruel, but surprising?
Nope.
News has been broken regarding the Scottish airport that has been used recently by US flight crews who went on to berth at his Turnberry property. "NOTHING TO DO WITH ME" Trump Tweeted--which pretty much is the sort of denial I have come to take to be equal to an admission. By "nothing to do with", Trump means nothing more than, he didn't book them in himself. The Air Force and Congress will be examining this further.
Oh. Another investigation? Must be a day ending in "y".
Speaking of investigations, it turns out that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, might have elicited the walk-back Tweet that Trump's fake news forecasting was the result of information they had given him, by threatening to fire people. Given my characterization of Trump as a mob boss, while Old Man Ross isn't exactly the leg-breaker one envisions enforcing Trump loyalism, I admit not being at all surprised by the tactic. Yep. Leverage, intimidation and assholism.
No surprises there.
In what could be a big-time story that under any other presidency would be just gob-stopping (or maybe not, outing of Valerie Plame and all that considered) under any other presidency, it looks like the CIA exfiltrated an asset with high-level Russian contacts because there was a concern Trump would blow his cover back in 2017.
Please. You can pore over the entirety of the TrumpWorld Grab-Bag posts and then understand my utter lack of shock. Of course, Trump would give up intelligence assets for reasons--especially good ones like his Russian help getting found out. Shit, he blows up intelligence assets because he's just feeling petty and has a Twitter app on his phone. Spook shit's deep, so maybe we won't understand how directly worry about Trump blowing up the connection would've messed with that individual, but given that Trump has super-loyalist Bill Barr trying to pore over even that kind of stuff?
That isn't even the reservoir tip. The real news shaft is somewhere behind it, but it isn't in yet.
I wish I was not this jaded. This news day would have killed the entire life out of previous presidencies. I haven't even touched all of Trump's dumb shit yet! He had a rally in North Carolina where he lied a lot, even about whether or not it was raining. That's pretty mental, right? ("Mental" enough to get his phone tapped under proposed regulation, ha? Again--not abnormal for this administration. He wants people with mental illness registered and regulated, not guns.)
I'm beyond surprise--but not disgust. Days like today should provoke disgust. This administration, which Trump has against boasted he would like to extend for several terms, should not see a repeat.
