This Tweet from VA Rep. Eric Cantor made the rounds today--for those who can't see the image, it says "Today, we celebrate those who have taken a risk, worked hard, built a business and earned their own success."
He seems just a bit confused--this is the Day of the Earners of Paychecks. But just for the record, workers do take risks on the oil rigs, in the coal mines, on the beat, in the classroom, at the scene of an emergency, on the assembly-line, and wherever honest work is being done. Not all who work necessarily build businesses, but some do--and all serve to build communities where, hopefully, work is seen as valued not because of financial success alone, but because it represents necessary jobs worth doing.
It's a shame that conservatives have worked themselves into this "who built what" corner, where they recognize the "captains of industry" and neglect to understand the workforce those "job-creators" supposedly lead. If they paid a bit more attention to workers in general, they might offer more solutions with respect to job-creation as a whole.
