Gore Vidal, RIP

Erudite, witty, a lucid and lush writer, Gore Vidal was a major influence on allies and foes alike. He outlived Buckley, Mailer and Hitchens, and who knows how they might have ended up without having feuded with him. He was tremendously quotable, and will be missed.

My favorite Vidal moment is when he caused Buckley to let the civilized facade slip and show his brutishness on national television.
