The Mystery of Bob and the Bear

You know, I love a good mystery and this whole scenario has several. The first being--did this actually happen? Yes, someone left a dead bear in Central Park 10 years ago, but RFK, Jr. is out of his mind and might think this is actually really funny even if he didn't do it. Conversely, now that he brings this up, it does seem like something that could happen to him. He is.... interesting. Let's call it that.

But if he did it....

Do I believe someone else hit and killed the bear? (Maybe, but mmmm?)  Do I think he might have been not-sober and hit it--and the story is blaming some random van-lady so he can remove himself from the actual deed? (The idea of a Kennedy just scooping up asphalt specials like Cousin Eddie out here is killing me.)

Is this a story you want on the internet? Especially if you are running for political office? And I don't mean president. Like, city council? Dog catcher? Probably especially not dog catcher.

How is it he is happening to tell this to MAGA superfan Roseanne Barr? (The best part is this is Roseanne freakin' Barr, and even she is shooting him looks like "You crazy son of a bitch!")

Why stage an accident?  And "just for yuks" makes no sense. You don't have to stage an "accident" with a roadkill animal. It's roadkill. Leave it on a road. People will assume hit and run and pay it no mind. This poor critter got left in the exact way and place to generate attention. That is very weird. Government resources got spent trying to figure this out.

Senator Sinema Speaks Her Piece

Having watched this a number of times, my brain has settled on translating the change of tenses as: "I was trying to solve problems by embracing working across the aisle, but we weren't having that, were we? So you lost out. Audi 5000, you guys."

I've tried to grasp what makes an intelligent person who presented as a left-leaning politician decide to explore the middle and it always came up as a fashion statement--which isn't to minimize what she tried to do, it's just to say that when McCain did it, it was because he "remembered when". Now, I just got done posting that we could use folks willing to be bipartisan and bemoaned that guys like Jim Lankford weren't getting credit--from Republicans for doing just that. And I'm not saying bipartisanship is wrong--it's just that it can't exist for its own sake. Shafting voting bills or minimum wage raises--things dear to the Democratic base, is just masochism.

What darlings would the GOP get asked to surrender? (Not the carried interest deduction. But what?)

The valley that exists--the great disruption in our bipartisanship, has to do to a large extent with distrust. I think it was Grover Norquist who defined bipartisanship as "date rape"--meaning one side had the upper hand and the other had to comply by force. Graceful acquiescence to the needs of the present moment just isn't the current ethos. It's sad. It's true though. We just don't think doing business with the other side doesn't involve, to be extremely blunt--getting fucked.

Trying to explore that middle ground cost Sinema a lot. I think a lot of us cynics could have told her what would have happened for free. And I wish her well in her future endeavors. And I wish Ruben Gallego VERY WELL in his. Please start contributing to this good man's campaign.

This RFK, Jr. Person Might Be Going Places. (Updated)

I sure as hell don't know where those places are, but he is assuredly going. I don't know if he ripped ass on this video, but it sounded like someone sure did. I like his declaring independence because he sure is. And I also love that the GOP got big mad the anti-Biden trap they laid is on them.  So Democrats mostly don't need to care, because the crazy is just going to expose itself.

I love it when a Flynn/Bannon production does stupidly awry.

UPDATED: Dennis Kucinich has left the campaign and has been replaced by Kennedy's daughter-in-law.  Some speculation exists that RFK Jr. was too nutty for Kucinich, but that hardly feels right. I think probably has a lot more to do with Kennedy's switch from being a Democratic chaos agent to a freelance chaos agent. Also, Kucinich has long been a critic of Israel, and despite having said anti-Semitic things, RFK JR. is pro-Israel, so maybe recent events brought things to a head.

What's Up with Senator Sinema?

Look, like David S. Pumpkins, she's her own thing, okay? She seems to have come up with an elegant solution to being primaried when Democrats just aren't that into her and feels she achieves some kind of bipartisan cred thing that, frankly, I don't understand.

And I won't. So, since it doesn't change the composition of the Senate, I frankly don't give a damn. If she can make it work and somehow not screw with the Democratic party agenda, that would be great.

It feels like she could have been more of a team-player to start with, but it's totally her call what she does now, so I don't have one mean thing to say
