You could take all of the pomp of Trump's office, the glory of the flag, the history of this great nation, and....
Well that exactly what the RNC did. They took all of that. And added fireworks and an operatic finish.
But the evening's main spectacle was a sweaty man melting behind a lectern while lying away at some of his old standbys for 70 minutes or so. He used his grand stage to mention his opponent's name 41 times, when last week, Joe Biden did not need to say's Trump's name once. He used the White House and his office just as he has been using the White House and his office.
In the street, people were protesting. Over 180,000 people have died from a pandemic Trump poorly managed. The unrest over stark and deadly disparities in how policing affects our diverse communities continues, because Trump confuses aggression with leadership. Inside Trump's bubble, he and his allies pushed aside reality, letting him shoulder none of the blame while ludicrously alledging that, at some point, if re-elected, he will become the man he desperately says he is.
But in a nutshell, he is not, and might as well have given that speech while standing on an acorn.
