They Listen to Him

It should hardly go without saying in the same week that Cesar Sayoc was sentenced to 20 years for crimes committed under the influence of Trump's rhetoric, but it is absolutely not beyond imagining that Trump's words do matter. He has made comments that encourage violence and a correlation has been found between the location and timing of Trump's rallies and an increase in hate crimes.

In 2016, pundits blathered about whether Trump's words should be taken seriously or literally. It is becoming clearer that his followers take his language literally--and we all need to take that seriously. (And we should not blow off the connections to white supremacy,no matter what Trump's apologists try to say, either. I will have more to say about that anon.)
