HI Vixen, Whew! I guess it's a good thing for Ted that Pennsylvania girls can't vote in Texas.
Come to think of it, probably vice versa as well, except that you're probably safe, because I doubt anyone in the Southwest knows who the Pennsylvania senators are.
I thought I would give you a little heads-up on an emerging, new kind of Republican. For the purpose of easy designation rather than a more scrupulous definition, I will call them Dennis Miller Republicans.
These are Republicans who are defintely conservative on most issues, but they are not activists. A lot of them grew up reading flame wars on the Internet that mostly consisted of 10 to 14 million zealots screaming in their own echo chambers. (That's why I started posting on leftist sites, by the way. I got a lot of agreement from my ideological soul mates, but what good was it doing sitting around in our mutual masturbation?)
The Dennis Miler Republicans are not interested in fighting about politics. They are gong to vote conservative without question. And if you ask them how they feel about an issue, they will tell you. However, if you want to argue about it, they will simply nod and smile and say, "Yeah, you're probably right," and go about their business. They have become weary of the Internet hysteria and have moved on.
This species of Republican has come to realize that if you are thinking about politics all the time, you have probably missed the point. They are conservatives, but they are interested in their music, their art, their business, their family, their reading, their pets, and all of the variety that makes life worth paying attention to. They don't wear their politics on their sleeve, but at the same time they have pretty much imbibed the theoretical underpinnings of conservatism, and therefore can be counted on at the ballot box.
Personally, I hope this catches on to an even wider group. There are many subjects that are intriguing to learn and think about (Vixen, I believe that you and I have had some conversations about some of them), and I could do with a nice, long period of people maintaining the integrity of their political views, but dialing back the hate to a very low level.
