Hi Vixen,
you told us to act, so here goes.
Please, someone alert the ambassador from China that I have said that we want China to stop polluting the environment. We also understand that China would like us to impose so many regulations on our own corporations (despite the fact that our carbon footprint has diminished) that they move to China. So, China, if you would simply squash your growth, our environment would be a heck of a lot better.
Dear Ministry of the Environment in India and the Punjab: please stop polluting our environment. You are causing a lot of trouble as you try to bring your country out of poverty, and we would appreciate a little sensitivity.
Some of these icebergs floating around the north and south poles may be shrinking. Despite the fact that none of these areas are in American territorial waters, we want the countries in whose waters they sometimes float to stop polluting. And we want the countries who are messing with the rain forests to stop that too.
Furthermore, if you guys in all of your different countries ignore my sentiments, be careful because I will tell President Obama. And then there will be hell to pay.

You know Formerly Amherst, given that the folks in China are sucking air through surgeon's masks part of the time, that they've buggered their live expectancy, and that something like 90 percent of the groundwater there is polluted, I'm kind of thinking their sorting out ther behavior won't actually require your exhortation so much as their acquiesence to reality. But in the moral realm, I don't think we would want to wait for other nations to sort their shit before attending to our own.
Water goes everywhere. The planet shares an environment. Where the hell do you think the water goes--it stays at the poles? And actually, I think the President realizes as well as you do what folks in other countries might be doing economically--it isn't about punishing them--ugh, like bad actors get a "spanking" like we're dealing with children. The repercussions are economic--failing to be forward-thinking costs in the long-run. The Chinese are no less pragmatic than we are--they only have portions of their economic sector that have farther to go before catching up to better environmental solutions.
But the problem is shared. It's as true for them as for us. There is simply no excuse.
