The Dirty Thing About a Coal Cleaner
I think 300k+ people without safe drinking water is a pretty big deal. The idea that we just don't know what a "safe" amount is or what impact this spill will have long-term, and how it might affect wildlife is a disturbing one. And yet chemicals like this are used in coal processing and, say, fracking, all the time.
Makes you wonder about our sanity, as a species, sometimes.
