2012 Round-up: My Personal Top Five

Well, it being the end of the calendar year, there's no reason not to do a retrospective of the old blog and the things I think I didn't do too bad a job on. (After all, I did the same thing last year around this time.) This was a pretty good blogging year for me--the best part of which was being asked to join the snarkily-astute and massively cool folks at Rumproast earlier this year.  It's a great thing to be part of a community, and the Rumproast bloggers and commenters are some of the funniest and smartest people you could know.

Anyway, on to my vanity-post; I'm sticking with "five" of mine because ten still sounds like too many. This year it's gotten a little harder to pick out my favorites, though. I think this was the year the the "war on women" was fully acknowledged, and a lot of stories came to light where I explored that topic--it certainly isn't my favorite topic, but certainly is the one I feel most strongly about! Also, I took the time to get meta about the Obama Administration just in time for election year--so if it seems like I've been a serious Obama Apologist--okay, maybe. The sad spectacle of the Romney Campaign gave me a lot of opportunities to complain about the state of the current incarnation of the GOP--but man-oh-man did I not enjoy blogging about Romney. I preferred, from my blogular perch, the more sublime wingnut performance art that was Rick Santorum. Is it seriously going to be 2015 before I catch up with him again in the Iowa cornfields, fleshily primarying and being wrong about things? Too long, that. I will monitor his political fortunes whenever they hove into view in the meanwhile.

So once again, in chronological order, somethings I wrote that didn't suck:

1) The Compromise:  This was both a "War on Women" post and a meta-Obama post, in the sense that I addressed mostly what I saw as Obama's approach to legislating from the bully pulpit and its impact on women's health--a foreshadowing of things that would develop later on.

2) Nearer My Womb to Thee: Blog Against Theocracy 2012:  I take "Blog Against Theocracy" posts seriously because I consider theocratic totalitarianism one of the greatest threats to personal liberty, and especially female-bodied personal liberty, that there is. This year was no exception.

3) Because He's the President, That's Why :  This was my choice for the Jon Swift Memorial Roundup  2012, and once again, it is a meta-Obama post. Amidst a climate of political dysfunction, there are things that need to be addressed. Immigration is clearly one of the things we need to figure out--and how to transition people into becoming legal citizens who are already here. Obama took a reasonable step--even if he got some grief for it.

4) Profiles in Theocracy: Obvious Theocrat is Obvious:  It's not a great piece of writing, but I once again return to anti-theocracy because theocrats simply aren't intellectually honest.  I think it's very necessary that they be recognized for the anti-science liars they often are.

5) The Best Is Yet to Come I consider whither the future for the hater party, and I think things are going to be alright.  I envision Obama getting serious business done, because getting a second term is serious business.

This wasn't  a bad little year--for one thing, I continued my "Know Your Class War" theme with additional entries about income inequality and how the deck is stacked against working people.  For another, I finally seriously decided to address climate change and environmental issues with my "climate sunday" posts. I hope I can continue raising consciousness and sometimes, entertain my readers with my persistent vixenations.

Thanks to my readers whoever you are if you come on by and have a little "think" with me--it means a lot.

Glad to be here! You may feel no. 4 is not your best piece of writing but I think the last paragraph is very strong and fine.

I think you should dump the "slackerish" bit from your masthead- if you were more on fire, I'd pull an alarm station.

It's been a hell of a good year blogwise!
