Richard Holbrooke, Diplomat, 1941-2010



This quote says a lot:

As Holbrooke was sedated for surgery, his final words were to his Pakistani surgeon, family members said: "You've got to stop this war in Afghanistan."


Holbrooke served his country as an able diplomat for nearly fifty years--with his last words, he was still advising. That strikes me as impressive dedication.
