Breast Ironing in Cameroon

This is a pretty horrible thing parents are doing to their developing young women--

It's hard for me to understand how this practice occurred to someone as a solution to underage sex in the first place. Just as with FGM, the assumption seems to be that there is something wrong with women's bodies. It's the female body that has to somehow be stopped before it leads young men into doing something. But the behavior of men who might be interested in an underage girl?

Unstoppable as the tides. It's not like men, in fact, were human beings who could be told, "No, you won't be having sex with my daughter," or that young girls could possibly be taught to say "No, I don't think we will be having any sex, thanks." Instead, the very wrong female body just has to be punished.

It's so cruel, unnecessary and sad.
