Trump was a little late to his big press conference announcing he was going to use the military to occupy Washington, DC in order to liberate it, but that's OK--he all know the occupation is about his preoccupation with the idea of big city crime (homeless, people, ethnic people, fascist stuff) and to divert attention from his connections to Jeffrey Epstein (which is NOT going away). What fascinated me, of course, was that Krasnov seemed to think that Alaska was Russia. Please don't embarrass him in front of his BOSS. He gets nervous and his tummy hurts. https://t.co/33XOFfMWb5

It's the kind of mistake any senile reprobate with no basic idea of geography could make quite accidentally twice, I guess. After all, Trump s still patting himself on the back for putting out the LA fires (which were already contained by the time he took office) by turning a big beautiful spigot nowhere near them, wasting a lot of water and doing nothing, on the general principle that water flows downhill. Because north is at the top of the map, you see. South would be downhill--that just science!
What I'm getting at is, he's just really dumb, but also? He may very well think Alaska is part of Russia if Putin says so. After all, it's just like Crimea. Putin called "dibs." That counts for something, right?
Trump's understanding of Russia's war with Ukraine is comical in that he sees it all as a real estate deal. This is marginally better than that of his trusty envoy, Witkoff, who didn't apparently understand what he was doing at all.
Because Trump can't fail, but can only be failed, his staff is probably figuring out a way for His Incompetence to make a short stop in Vladivostok or something. Rather like his very important photo op to the DMZ, it would really buck him up and make him feel HISTORIC.
And here's our problem with Trump diplomacy in a nutshell--he wants some deliverable to make himself look like a Nobel Prize winner, but is truly uninterested in things like facts or outcomes, because he makes up both as easily as he breathes and lives in an echo chamber where no matter how wrong he is--he gets told he's right. As he demonstrated in his press conference today--he really doesn't know what the crime stats are for DC--or anywhere else, but he definitely wants to DO SOMETHING. And what that something is or whether it makes anything better is irrelevant.
The actual result will be cruelty and chaos, so of course, he will try and expand this to other blue cities. Russia's war in Ukraine, which Trump seems to blame Zelenskyy for (because again, Trump is dumb) will go on because Putin wants chaos and cruelty, and Trump, whatever knowledge he may lack in other respects, understands that.
I really hope "Krasnov" does go to Russia. The question is--how do we make him stay?

I was taught about Seward’s Folly in I believe the 8th grade. Not quite as good a deal as the Louisiana Purchase, but I think we did well in both.
It wasn't Russia's to sell in the first place. It was barely a colony; there were more Russian speakers in what is now Washington than Alaska, more Hudson's Bay Trading Posts than Ontario. Thomas Jefferson envisioned a sister-country on the west coast, not some continent-spanning empire. Then the Army showed up and at the behest of the New York City Bankers and Insurers the Oregon Territory became Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana British Colombia as we know them. Not to mention Russia needed the money, it was a fair and square purchase, even if it wasn't Russia's to sell
So too the midlands: though they weren't French to sell it was none-the-less a good-faith purchase. France needed the money
To finance wars of colonization ...
