Self-Evident

Yesterday, the government of President Trump sided with a horrific evil, a war criminal, an invader, and enemy of democracy, and Trump himself tried to tell his little lies about why he thought it was all right for him to do so.

And was corrected.

It is, after all, a little thing, an OBVIOUS thing, to tell the truth. But it isn't done often enough, and still less to his stupid, mulish face.

Trump tried to say that why he did what he did was self-evident. It's an opaque answer hiding a basic truth--Trump is unfit for whatever reason you care to name, but among them, the truth is not with him. And a nation that would be "great" cannot be afraid of the truth.

Macron also pointed out yesterday that they ceased talking with Putin after Bucha, to rub Trump's face in what it is he is trying to make a deal with, like a stupid boy signing his soul away to the devil. Does it make any impact of Trump? Probably not. But it should affect the conscience of people who still have one of those dusty, put-away with the good china things.

As with truth, we could stand to use that a little more, as well.

Canadian Bacon and Trump Ham

Honestly, right-wing forces have been working at Trudeau since well before Trump started on this 51st-state nonsense.  This appears to be an appeal to turn out conservative Canadians. It's only part delusional. But along with his renewed Greenland interest--and the observed meddling Elon Musk has been engaging in in Europe, that we seem to have a very disturbing case of two megalomaniac viruses swapping DNA.

I'm still working on the big picture about this

Your Country is on Fire, You Knob

Putting aside all the "lungs of the earth" language about where 20% of our oxygen comes from, so help me, fire is not popular. Nor is Bolsonaro, really. The dude needs to get a grip.

UPDATE: And yes, this is far too serious for a grown man to make a petty chest thumping thing over.

Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron!

It's unusual for me to remark on the politics of other countries (I don't pretend I understand'em all that well), but this one interested me because of the nationalist thing that people keep talking about. Trump is being chalked up as nationalist--whatever that means in the US. Norbert Hofer lost in Austria, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands--which made it seem like maybe this far right nationalism thing wasn't really taking off on all cylinders. But LePen was getting the kind of attention that made it seem like maybe...

I mean really, when are our US bigots ever wrong? (Besides nearly always.) Also, there was that odd specter of Russian hacking going on. But when the story of Macron's rise from longshot to landslide is told, it should be pointed out that he was fortunate in his opponent, because LePen and what she stands for is truly awful. The world does not need leaders who refuse to learn from history and let bigotry stand in for intelligent policy. We don't need verbal bomb-throwers--we need people of good will and honest ability to listen and work with others.

I think the people of France have chosen wisely and taken to heart the difficulties presented by bad examples--not that I'm naming any names.

TWGB: It's Raining Shoes!

It certainly has been a minute, hasn't it? So, what brings me out of self-imposed blogging exile, if not something very relevant to my...
