How About That OPSEC?

 

Look at that Murderer's Row in the above picture. You've got NSA Mike Waltz, who added The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to the chat, you've got very pompous VP JD Vance, SECDEF Pete Hegseth. who let us know America USED to be foolish (whatever we look like now, he will probably have to face in the morning after he's slept it off a bit), Secretary of State Lil Marco (Alleged Adult) Rubio, DNI Tulsi We Don't Compromise Classified Intel Gabbard, and Steve Witlesskopf--who was using his cell phone to join in from Moscow where Putin was making him wait. 

Everyone on that chat should have known better than to be on that Signal chat. If they preferred Signal for some reason, it's hard not to think it was to avoid FOIA. So, they chose being potentially open to access by GRU (known to try to exploit apps like Signal by following people of interest) over institutional transparency. 

And the White House is going to settle on the problem being:

Something like "No fair, Jeffrey Goldberg, telling on us!" instead of them doing the proper thing and revising all the things and the way they are doing them. (When the journalist was apparently the most present-of-mind person in the chat and respectably left before it got too deep--more than I would have done with my lurking ass.)

But we have some pettiness (from Team TrumpWorld, not Mr. Goldberg):

He can cover it up for a lot of us, but those who know, know.

And as for Trump not knowing, I don't think that man is altogether with us all the way anymore. Not that I hold him blameless, but he was just finding out today this chat even took place? Nonetheless, he is the man who had boxes of classified paper in his MAL shitter, and once talked up bombing Syria in front of a delegation from Japan at Mar-A-Lago just to be that gangster. He had a learning curve. 

He never climbed it.

I promise you, Mr. Celebrity Apprentice to this day could not have it explained to him why this is wrong to be out there where people can know about it. Everyone on this chat screwed up, but they are not anything on King Screw-up the MAGAnificent. 

This only gains traction if Dems show some balls, the mainstream press figures out how to do facts not feelings, and the GOP realizes this reflects on their whole competence as a party. 

I wish I was more upbeat about people understanding why this is so not great. But yeah--it's not great at all.
