Listening to the Felon

Trump isn't any nicer since he was shot at--he says so himself! His attacks on Vice-President Harris are nasty but unfocused. ("Low IQ"? Really?). And maybe he really did mean he would "fix" things so "his Christians" wouldn't have to vote anymore as in--there wouldn't be any more elections. But in the above clip--he really makes a point, doesn't he?

A sex pest like Trump stays a disgusting misogynist. A white-collar fraud stays a fraud. Trump's 34 convictions, like his 2020 loss and his two impeachments, stay on his record. It's completely true that SCOTUS can partially immunize this mess--but we can look right at him and realize that whatever his deal is--

We do not have time to figure it out. Trump says a lot of things. We shouldn't go tiptoeing through the tulips picking and choosing which crazy things he "really, really" means. (We are way past the "seriously" vs. "literally" question.) He's a conman and a thug, and that should be enough. We had whatever you want to call 1/6--he'd do it again. He lied about the election being stolen--he'd do it again. He took classified docs for whatever reason--he'd violate national security for his own weird reasons again. He screwed up the national response to COVID and crashed the economy--he can't be trusted in an emergency.

He's also weird, old, nasty, boring, and his brain seems to be melting. And he picked a weird, young, nasty, stiff as his running mate. His flaws are glaring, and the worst part is--he directly tells you how bad he is.

What else do you need?

********

Note: I don't like predictions, but I am going to uncork one: Trump is planning to do another rally in Butler, PA. Expect a lot of "martyr-baiting". Team Trump ignores that the 20-year-old gunman doesn't seem to have been ideologically influenced and have decided that "Trump took a bullet for his country" is the line of goods they want to run with. We are supposed to ignore his perfectly unscathed looking ear and not say that Trump is actually running to keep out of prison and still plans to hold outdoor rallies because he and they are cheap.

But no--when I saw the firefighter uniform at the RNC, I got the feeling he's going to use this man as his Horst Wessel, since the Ashli Babbit thing didn't work. There's going to be a lot of "waving the bloody ear" and it's going to be obvious and gross. We will hear: "They are attacking me to get to you--AND SEE WHAT JUST HAPPENED" types of insinuations. He will tell them he's saving them from the real bad guys. ("You won't even have a country" is already one of his constant tropes.)

Trump is a weak man, but he sure does love to pull his "strongman" routine. It's a time-honored con he wants to run. But he's a time-battered pumpkinhead, so I'm just saying-no.
