Detention camps. Build the wall. Iron Dome. Trump is full of unnecessary antihumanitarian gimmicks. I think I know pretty well what he thinks he means by detention camps--something akin to what his good buddy Sheriff Arpaio had. How in the fuck, into the 21st century, was this shit something we as a modern nation allowed?
They love the hate and the othering. Calling other people names is a good substitute, they reckon, for figuring out the real cause of inequality. The grotesque ease with which untermenchen always figure out how to keep punching down while never challenging the ubermen.
You know who also loves this stuff--Chip Roy of Texas. He applauded and supports Ron DeSantis because he shipped people from Venezuela who got to Texas all the way to Martha's Vinyard, because that is proof of something, and I want to say it is xenophobia and also proof that liberal cities are better at figuring out how to care for people than bigots in MAGAland ever could.
Which brings us to the tragedy at Eagle Pass, the woman and two children who died as Texas officials prevented federal officials from doing anything about them. This was according to design. This is what Governor Abbott expends his efforts with, instead of making life better for Texans. Like fixing the energy grid and shoring up protections for Texas residents in shit weather. Like accepting money to feed hungry kids.
Now, Greg Abbott is going to tell us that woman and those two children were already dead in the water.
Sure, that's how he wants it. From the moment they left home and threw themselves at the demented Jigsaw trap this psychopath put between them and a life that was still grueling, but had to be better than whatever they left if you understand what they had to overcome to get so far in the first damn place. Of course, they were. By design.
If you can contort your conscience to accept what happened to these people--what other injustices might you steel yourself to accept? Against who and for what pitiful, petty, shitty-arsed reason?
Don't ask me to like it. My people came here on ships and were hungry and ready to work and only half of them were considered properly white at the time. My husband is first generation Italian, The life we have is a blessing. Neither of us want to pull the goddamn ladder up so no one else can ever use it. But we want the blessing we have economically (such as it is) also to extend to freedom, and the people who would put immigrants in camps and talk about retroactively fucking up birthright citizenship are thinking of ways to "unperson" people like us, natural born citizens with the wrong set of ideas.
DeSantis shipped people to Marthas Vinyard as a presidential bid gimmick, and his use of taxpayer money to ship humans around was money he never spent in his state, which has real needs, high insurance prices, and a gotdamb quack he put in as state Surgeon General to benefit from the anti-vaccine propaganda. But seriously, this dude is a whole quack quack quack. What is he seriously doing positively for anyone--nothing!
What is Abbott seriously doing for anyone! NOTHING! Is the grid secure? How is the weather treating everyone? Did he fix anything while he was fucking up the border?
And will Trump do anything positive? We know the wall was a joke, and the Iron Dome is a dumber joke--does Trump even understand it isn't like the lid of a chafing dish, except dropped over an entire country? Does he think Canada or Mexico is going to start lobbing missiles at us the way Hamas and Hezbollah lob them over Israel? Or is he thinking this is a suggestion about the dumbass idea the subgeniuses of the moron fringe have about war with the Mexican cartels--that literally invading Mexico to fight "gangsters" is going to either make our border safer or stop the supply of dangerous drugs?
A stupid waste of money to pursue an obsession created by FOX News.
Why is the right wing like this? Have they no critical thought left? Is it all fearmongering and gimmicks?
And murder of women and children just wanting to breathe freedom? Who thought this country meant that up until their last breath, when living here I have to know better, and grieve what they knew too late? For once, to just think you were free and had a shot at a better life? When I don't know how long we have that here while people like Abbot, DeSantis, and Trump exist?
Republicans are savages, mean spirits and violence pimps who don't bat an eyelash over brave people risking their lives for something good, when they wouldn't dream of risking their mere comfort to save us from insurrection or fascism. They even encourage it.
They see themselves on Rushmore, while snuffing out the Torch of Liberty, The literal worst America has to offer, and not unpopular for some terrible reason our refusal to face history lets us stay blind to.
Also, the House GOP would rather not admit any immigration bill until there's a GOP president for fear it will count as a "win" for Biden. It's a concern--but more of an electoral concern than one they want to take care of RIGHT NOW. And that's all I ever need to know about anything.
