Sen.Thune Rises From The Derp Bench To Tweet

So, six million (What a round and evocative number! What's six million? No really?) people might lose health care subsidies, that they only actually have because...of the ACA, AKA Obamacare. In other words, Obamacare is bad because people can try and take it away. Which would mean it is good if we let it work. But the people who don't want it to work make it bad.

Which would mean the conservatives who don't want it to work are bad? You know, because they are the ones who are actively trying to not make it work?

This is totally in line with my thoughts on the issue! Thank you, Senator John Thune, once thought of as a possible 2016 Presidential Primary contestant! You have summed up the cynical shots against the ACA succinctly by pointing out who the real problem is!

Also, for the people playing GOP 2016 Primary, the Home Game, scratch Thune off your 2016 list, aaaand your 2020 list, too. Just saying.

If you start with an ideological conclusion, and then try to work backwards to create a path to the desired outcome, you will often find yourself twisted in rhetorical knots. Indeed, we see this with supply side economics (lower taxes will actually increase revenue), economic policy (deficits are the most dangerous thing in the world, but may NEVER be addressed by higher taxes) and of course "Obamacare is a trainwreck". Another good example of this is described by Krugman today, where the Republicans say the ACA has failed because it hasn't covered everyone it was supposed to, without mentioning that the ONLY reason it has fallen short is the Red States that refused the Medicaid expansion....
