Derp Throat and the Worst Journalist in the World

I remember when I was a kid, Woodward and Bernstein were like the household word for respected journalism. It probably had a lot to do with that movie, you know. But also, the Nixon Administration was a bunch of scary cats, which made the story of how two journalists doggedly pursued the truth despite the Powers That Be particularly compelling--even brave.  That's why the timeline of Bob Woodward's seeming full-on animus against the Obama White House, leading him to kind of misrepresent the relationship of the president to "ownership" of responsibility for the sequester (despite having "written the book", literally on the subject), make utterly wretched statements in favor of a dictator-presidency, followed by a bizarre song and dance with plausible denial that he was threatened by a White House op, followed by a tonguebath with FOX mushroom farm manure-shoveler extraordinaire, Sean Hannity, a little hard to watch....

Oh, my bad--I don't find it hard to watch at all. It's just a distraction from what the sequester actually is and does, how it was supposed to be a deterrent to get both sides (meaning Republicans) to the table to sort our our supposed budget issues and actually seems to be yet another symbol of the willingness of one party to screw over the citizens of the country to serve some idea of smaller government that it turns out very few people would actually believe in or want.

It is sad that Woodward's reputation is taking a self-imposed beating. I understand the Daily Caller feels played by him, but the Breitbartlets would probably be interested in someone with his current level of ethics in journalism.  But in the real world where journalists are not the story, the malpractice of congress and the hyperpartisan aversion to the very notion of negotiation, or revenue being essential to governmental budgeting, are threatening to throttle our economy.

By "worst journalist", I do not think I meant Hannity, despite Rep. Ellison's description. I mean that the person who once helped bring down a president because of high crimes and misdemeanors, now thinks lack of access is a misdemeanor, and not being Beltway schmoozy is a high crime. and that's...like I said. Not hard to watch. But also not the story.

It's amazing how these guys become hacks and it shines a light on their C.V. that exposes them as having been shams all along. It's like St McCain, if he hadn't run such a hacktacular campaign, I never would have looked into his less-than-heroic role in the U.S.S. Forrestal fire.

"Derp Throat" is a wonderful coinage though.
