I understand that the House is currently at work on a debt ceiling plan that postphones the debt ceiling debate until something like May. Which is great for them, and good luck with that, but did they notice that they have nothing? Because once the debt ceiling is yielded, I don't think you get that one back. Actually for what it's worth, I don't even think you get defaulting over the budget back. Because you've already conceeded that default is bad. Government shut-downs are bad. And also--you have to settle on a budget, because otherwise, now Democrats can talk about whether you all have passed a budget. And for what it's worth, a shut-down really would be bad, and cost way too much and possibly even damage our credit limit.
They can ask for a continuation to May, but default will still mean the same thing in May. The debt ceiling still has the same consequences in May.
Have we reached infinite football-pull, where it turns out Obama was Lucy all the time? And it's the GOP who will never ever kick the ball? I don't know what that means, but I kind of like it. The GOP can't move the ball without Obama's permission. And he's already said he'll protect our entitlement programs. So what do they get?
Niente? It sort of looks like niente.

it's basically a face-saving gesture. the GOP was bluffing when threatening a default unless they got spending cuts. when the president called their bluff, they couldn't just raise the debt ceiling. what would their tell their rabid supporters? so they came up with this idea of punting the issue for a few months and then tying the debt ceiling with the annual budget negotiations, never mind that the U.S. government hasn't passed a budget since obama was elected because the GOP won't let him.
