Michio Kaku Explains the Higgs-Boson Significance.
I am so fascinated by this sort of thing. It's not so much the idea that the media hyped "god particle" has been found, but that physics had a predictive model that bore out in an observable way. Yay--theoretical physics is backed-up by a thing--which happens to be the Ur-thing that makes all our things thing-like. That is actually cool, even if I don't get how it works or what anyone will do with this knowledge.

One of our monthly lectures (with beer!) was about the Higgs boson. The Higgs boson was predicted as a corollary to the Higgs field, which was proposed to explain why "mass" exists.
The whole "god particle" B.S. was merely hype to sell a book with the title "The God Particle".
Here's a good, simple visualization of the Higsons.
