I'll probably put something together about President Obama's speech tomorrow, but I just want to point out something about GOP hopeful Michele Bachmann's criticism of the president's use of the phrase "politicial circus": I think she's full of it. There is a circus-like atmosphere in Congress right now, where people perform their various acts and it can be pretty entertaining, but it just isn't spectacularly effective, and when it comes to putting Americans back to work, maybe something less entertaining and more effective needs to be tried. If she hasn't noticed that her workplace has become a circus, maybe it's because she's been so busy situating herself in the center ring.
She isn't alone in being a performer, though. Take this spectacle:
That is Rep. Jeff Landry, (R-Petroleum), whose sign reads "DRILLING = JOBS". I'm not sure if he genuinely thinks that there is somehow not enough drilling going on right now or is just signalling to his sponsors that there is a space he's willing to rent for advertising purposes at various functions like the odd joint session of Congress.
So reminiscent of Rep. Louie Gohmert's "What bill?" sign during the healthcare debate, whose clowning was overshadowed by Rep. Joe Wilson's famous aria : "You lie!"
What circus, Congresswoman? Maybe she can't see the circus for the clowns.
