Billy Bragg - Carpenters v Bob Dylan

I've been on what I'd call a "Bragg jag" lately:

In a post that tries to reconcile my obsessions, I'll point out that I only know about the Carpenters because they played on Musak when I did a stretch in retail. (They were especially enamoured of playing Carpenters at Christmas, which I recently pointed out.) It's my opinion that all retail workers should be unionized, and part of that has to do with benefits and sick time. Even union retail workers don't really get much in the way of personals or sick days. But I almost wish we could negotiate for better Musak, too. More Dylan, less Carpenters. And occasional folk-punk.
