Wow--we do propaganda: If all atheists left America.

On one hand, I can't help but be persuaded that I'm in good company, but I wonder at some of the presuppositions regarding exactly how much suckier America would be without Atheists, because it kind of tends to imply religion-having folks are, um the sucky people. And we were the ones raising the whole standard of living all this time.

I'm not saying we don't contribute a bunch. Uh, because we so do. But really? The godless, thin line between prosperity and grooviness and being Iran?

Maybe. I alternate between liking the message because it acknowledges that we are contributing, vital members of society, and wondering if it's off-putting. Saying, you know, "You lot would be Third World without us" is kind of harsh. But atheists are a big part of science and intellectualism and the arts' communities. I don't think it hurts for people to recognize that.
