"Mother of Believers". No, not a compliment.

I honestly think that this woman offends my indelicate sensibilities in every possible way. For people who are click-averse, the gritty details of why I am pretty much appalled by Samira Jassem, AKA "Um al-Mumenim", which translates as "Mother of Believers":

A WOMAN suspected of recruiting more than 80 female suicide bombers has confessed to organising their rapes so she could later convince them that martyrdom was the only way to escape the shame.

Samira Jassam, 51, was arrested by Iraqi police and confessed to recruiting the women and orchestrating dozens of attacks.

In a video confession, she explained how she had mentally prepared the women for martyrdom operations, passed them on to terrorists who provided explosives, and then took the bombers to their targets.

She organized their rapes, robbing her fellow females' self-respect and inner peace, merely for the purpose of selling them the comfort of suicide so they didn't have to live with the shame she, herself, had brought to them? What a piece of work. Imagine how she would do this thing. She pushes the button on some young woman--that one. The attack occurs. The victim--because the woman is until this point totally blameless and has done nothing wrong, is then sidled up to by this creature, who offers martyrdom as reputation insurance. What can you imagine such a person would say to these women? What language, what words, could she use?

Having brought this upon them, how does she see fit to speak to them at all, let alone use them in such a way? Does she look them in the eyes and tell them they are ruined unless they take up jihad? Does she extort them? Does she imply they must have done something impure, but this will set it right? Does she tell them they will trouble their families? How did she speak to these women?

And what do these confused, ashamed, abused women believe in when she is done with them? Because I can't imagine it. Can they believe that Allah is merciful and will see their sacrifice as their last, brave stand on this earth? Do they want to believe that, but know it is a lie and really just want to be shut of this sorry world? Do they know at the very end this was all a set-up to ruin everything that made life good for them, and maybe even suspect it was Samira Jassam they had to blame? Did Samira maybe think Allah would not know the difference, and take up his poor wounded martyrs anyway? That it was for the best for their souls to struggle like that--even if she was the instigator? Or did she even care for an instant about the lives of these women here on earth, or even in that place she believed in to come?

There is something so phenomenally wrong with the mindset of a person who could do these things to other people, that I (obviously) have more questions than answers. But that name--"Mother of Believers." No. One isn't extorted by cultural vagarities into a heroic belief. No. I can't help but think that these women were broken. If they believed anything, it was that death was good for something. And it was she who made death better than life.

No. Call her "Mother of Lies". Mother of the dead. Mother of misery, shame, and heartlessness. Mother of False Beliefs.

And the worst bit, to me, is she probably thinks she had a good reason for all of it.
