Feeling Blue Anonish

I mean, my rational brain has no proof of anything going on that would stop Trump (Musk and Vance and their various going concerns through Trump) from taking office, but some part of me really, really thinks there ought to be?

Like it's dumb and not happening and no controlling mechanism that I know of--but still?

I would very much prefer it if a kind of lunatic corrupt, insurrectionist jackaloon was not going to be made president just because a whole bunch of my fellow countrymen seem to be dumb, spiteful, mis-and dis-informed shooting pigeons. As if there actually were grown-ups somewhere who could call a do-over or takesies-backsies or something. I know these aren't real things!

But I want them to be because talk to me like I'm five about this, OK?  He is bad. A cheat, a bigot, a letch. Even the people pro-this guy kind of know it. Why isn't it enough? What part of many-times indicted and partially convicted isn't hitting? What part of vengeance and senility and rambling about windmills feels good?

I'm not the one to say what goes down, but if I were? Somebody would be doing some shit about it. That's all I got. I know other people feel the same way, and while I feel like it's all far-fetched, I get it. After Comey and Mueller and Jack Smith, still and all. I get it.

It looks bad because it is bad. And yet here he stays.

While the punishments for Watergate were not as far-reaching as they should have been, I remember believing that most of the rot had been dug out, and that sort of thing would not happen again. If it did, "someone" would "do something."

This time it seems there is no one to carry this particular ball across the goal line. We are fucked.

The GOP has taken stock of who they are and what they stands for, and have determined that the actual rot was having a sense of shame at all. Subsequently, they have proceeded to dig it out like a painful splinter in the paw, impeding their race to hell.

Well, Biden could issue an Executive Order defining all the activities in 2020 and January 2021 aimed at declaring Trump the winner of the 2020 election to be an insurrection. That would make Trump an insurrectionist, and therefore ineligible under 14.3 to hold any office. It would also make Mike Johnson, and all of the House members and senators who voted to reject Biden EV tallies on J6 insurrectionists, and therefore instantly remove them from office, and make them ineligible to ever hold office in the future. Oh, and also Alito and Thomas among the SCOTUS justices, at the least, based on what we know already.

It's true that actions from Election Day 2020 to J6 wouldn't rid us of Vance, because he had yet to take any oath of office. However, he has taken an oath of office since J6, and has participated in that insurrection that started four years ago, but which Trump insists is ongoing. Specifically, Trump promises to prosecute all who even investigated his Stop the Steal movement that culminated on J6. He promises to use the power of govt office to make it impossible for the courts to enforce the law, and that's insurrection.

Obviously, the best time to have invoked the Insurrection Act would have been on J6. That would have needed a bipartisan willingness to remove Trump from office immediately, and replace him with a president willing to issue the necessary executive order. And it wouldn't have been just Trump. The "moderate" Rs would have to have been willing to remove the 12 R senators and the over half of the House Rs who voted to reject Biden EV tallies if they were going to join a consensus that the whole StopThe Steal movement was insurrectionist. The joint session settled for completing the acceptance of enough EVs to make Biden president-elect.

By Inauguration Day 2021, the danger of the insurrection had passed, so while Biden certainly could have issued the required executive order that afternoon, it didn't seem needed. The attempt to frustrate carrying out the election law that had made Biden the next president, had itself been defeated already, so no need to send in the military and remove people from office as insurrectionists.

The case for declaring an insurrection would seem to be ever weaker the more time passed, because the law was being enforced unhindered. But, the passage of time unexpectedly rehabilitated Trump as a serious candidate for the office he had lost in 2020, and Trump continued to spread the lie that he had really won in 2020, statements that at least theoretically implied that if elected he would systematically use the processes of the law to violate the law and punish the guiltless for the imaginary "crimes" of making Biden president, or even of just investigating the Stop The Steal movement.

Now that he's won, and is the presumed president-elect, it's no longer a matter of extrapolating from his stated belief that he really won in 2020, to the logical conclusion that the folks who keep him from office despite winning must be criminals, and must be punished. This is exactly what he says openly he will do, now that the election is over and he doesn't risk alienating voters who don't want to live in a banana republic.

The insurrection is back. Biden could issue the necessary executive order and every R who supported that insurrection by endorsing Trump would be instantly ineligible to hold office.

There is a mechanism for you to get your wish, a presidential power that is already written into our laws, and a fellow D is currently the president. The only problem is that what I have outlined above is about the only way I can think of that you can get your wish. If what goes with your wish is something you don't want to see happen, you should probably change what you wish for .
